Abstract The widespread application of antibiotics in human and veterinary medicine has led to the pervasive presence antibiotic residues environment, posing a potential hazard public health. This comprehensive review aims scrutinize fate impact residues, with particular focus on context developing nations. investigation delves into diverse pathways facilitating entry environment meticulously examines their effects delineates current state evaluates exposure nations, elucidates existing removal methodologies. Additionally, it probes factors contributing endurance ecotoxicity correlating these aspects usage rates associated mortalities study also investigates techniques for assessing efficiency environmental compartments. concurrent emergence antibiotic‐resistant bacteria, engendered by adverse ecological threats underscore necessity enhanced regulations, vigilant surveillance programs, adoption sustainable alternatives. underlines pivotal role education awareness campaigns promoting responsible use. synthesis concludes strategic recommendations, strengthening imperative further research encompassing monitoring, ecotoxicological effects, alternative strategies, socio‐economic considerations, international collaborations, all aimed at mitigating detrimental health environment. Practitioner Points Antibiotic are widely distributed different Developing countries use more than developed countries. Human wastes one most sources pollution. Antibiotics interact biological systems trigger pharmacological reactions low doses. can be removed using modern biological, chemical, physical–chemical techniques.

Sulfonamides are a family of synthetic drugs with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. Like other antimicrobials, they have been found in aquatic environments, making their detection important. Herein, an electrochemical sensor was designed using tannic acid exfoliated few-layered MoS2 sheets, which were combined mixture reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and graphite flakes (G). The rGO/G formed electrodeposition, by cycling from −0.5 to −1.5 V acidified sulfate solution well dispersed GO G. sheets drop cast over the wrinkled surface form final sensor, GCE/rGO/G/ta-MoS2. superior pure rGO formulating sensor. fabricated exhibited extended linear range 0.1 566 μM, LOD 86 nM, good selectivity presence various salts water structurally related sulfonamide family. showed very reproducibility RSD at 0.48 %, repeatability acceptable long term stability 10-day period. Good recovery both tap river achieved, ranging 90.4 98.9 % for 83.5 94.4 real samples.

Pharmaceutical compounds are micropollutants of emerging concern, as well other classes chemicals such UV filters and artificial sweeteners. They enter marine environments via wastewater treatment plants, aquaculture runoff, hospital effluents, shipping activities. While many studies have investigated the presence distribution these pollutants in numerous coastal areas, our study is first to focus on their occurrence, spatial distribution, vertical sea surface microlayer (SML) near-surface layer environments. We analyzed 62 pharmaceutical compounds, one filter, six sweeteners from SML corresponding underlying water (0 cm, 20 50 100 150 cm) at four stations southern North Sea. One station enclosed Jade Bay, Weser estuary Bremerhaven, two (NS_7 NS_8) open German Bight. Bay receives surrounding while cities like which has dense populations industrial Concentrations were higher upper layers (from cm). Eleven (caffeine, carbamazepine, gemfibrozil, ibuprofen, metoprolol, salicylic acid, clarithromycin, novobiocin, clindamycin, trimethoprim, tylosin) detected >95 % samples. filter (benzophenone-4) was found 83 three (acesulfame, saccharin, sucralose) all All posed high risks freshwater invertebrate Daphnia magna. Integrons, which are genetic components commonly found in bacteria, possess the remarkable capacity to capture gene cassettes, incorporate them into their structure, and thereby contribute an increase genomic complexity phenotypic diversity. This adaptive mechanism allows integrons play a significant role acquiring, expressing, spreading antibiotic resistance genes modern age. To assess current challenges posed by integrons, it is necessary have thorough understanding of characteristics. review aims elucidate structure evolutionary history highlighting how use antibiotics has led preferential selection various environments. Additionally, explores involvement dissemination across diverse settings, while considering potential transmission factors routes. delves arrangement cassettes within ability rearrange, mechanisms governing expression, process excision. Furthermore, this study examines presence clinically relevant wide range environmental sources, shedding light on anthropogenic influences propagation environment.
