The interaction between microplastics (MPs) and pollutants is crucial for assessing the environmental risk of MPs. It necessary to pay attention adsorption/desorption behavior antibiotics on MPs due their potential role in antibiotic resistance. When MPs-loaded are ingested by organisms, they enter gastrointestinal tract undergo desorption, leading corresponding toxic effects. Existing literature primarily focuses adsorption behavior, while there a lack systematic generalizations desorption or combined effects organisms. Therefore, this article provides review mechanisms, biological tract. Desorption suggests that characteristics (aging hydrophobicity) components fluid (digestive enzyme species pH) can also have effect desorption. Moreover, summarizes induced MPs-antibiotics, demonstrating either enhance reduce plants, microorganisms, aquatic animals. Since methodological uniformity relevance natural environment main shortcomings existing literature, future research should focus actual water given region studying at gene, protein, metabolic levels. This direction expected provide valuable references insights evaluating antibiotics.

Marine microdebris (MD) seem to be widespread in benthic invertebrates, even the most remote areas of planet such as Antarctica, although information available is still very scarce. Here we provide a detailed quantification and characterization MD found on three common bivalve species (Aequiyoldia eightsii, Thracia cf. meridionalis, Cyclocardia astartoides) inhabiting shallow Johnsons' Bay, Livingston Island (South Shetland Islands, Antarctica) snapshot present. On average, these bivalves contained 0.71 ± 0.89 items per individual 1.49 2.35 gram, being comparable few previous existing studies other Antarctic areas. Nearly half organisms analysed here (45.6 %), at least one item. No significant differences were species. As far know, this first study analyse compare Peninsula. Although our results indicate are not polluted planet, remarkable since considered last pristine world. Our point local activities main source pollution Island, global cannot discarded. We believe research provides useful baseline for future will contribute develop policies strategies preserve marine ecosystems from pollution.

Anthropogenic debris has been documented in Antarctica for the past 40 years. Upon breakdown, large pieces become microdebris, which reaches seafloor through a variety of physical and biological processes. The Antarctic benthos, deeply reliant on sinking organic particles, is thus vulnerable to ingesting microdebris. By using benthic specimens sampled between 1986 2016 deposited collections, we provide first record microdebris Southern Ocean deep-sea invertebrates. Specimens from 15 species (n = 169 organisms) had their gut content examined, with 13 yielding shape fibers 85 fibers). highest ingestion percentages were recorded sea cucumbers Heterocucumis steineni (100%), Molpadia violacea (83%) Scotoplanes globosa (75%), brittle star Amphioplus peregrinator (53%). Deposit- suspension-feeding strategies yielded most fibers, accounting 83.53% particles. Seven identified as microplastics, composed polyamide, polycarbonate, polyester, polyethylene terephthalate, polyisoprene polysulfone. We also earliest microplastic Antarctica, polysulfone fiber ingested by Boreomysis sp. mysid caught 1986. occurrence world's remote continental margin renews concerns pollution seemingly isolated regions.
