The intrinsic metal–insulator transition (MIT) of VO2 films near room temperature presents significant potential for reconfigurable metamaterials in the terahertz (THz) frequency range. While previous designs primarily focused on changes electrical conductivity across MIT, accompanying dielectric due to mesoscopic carrier confinement effect have been largely unexplored. In this study, we integrate asymmetric split-ring resonators 35 nm epitaxial film and identify a “dielectric window” at early stages MIT. This is characterized by redshift resonant without degradation quality. phenomenon attributed an inhomogeneous phase film, which induces purely change onset while occurs later, slightly above percolation threshold. Our findings provide deeper insights into THz properties pave way dielectric-based, hybrid metamaterials.

Developing new organic crystals for efficient broad terahertz (THz) wave generation remains challenging, as multiple critical material properties must be achieved simultaneously within a single crystal. In this work, we introduce series of nonlinear optical salt tailored THz generators. The newly designed fluorinated cationic chromophore, 6-fluoro-2-(4-hydroxystyryl)-1-methylquinolinium (OH6FQ), has been incorporated with various or non-fluorinated anions into six different ionic crystals. Notably, the tetrafluorinated crystals, composed OH6FQ cations and trifluorinated anions, meet essential requirements generation, including large macroscopic nonlinearity, optimal facet orientation in as-grown mm-size, plate-like morphology, relatively low absorption across both entire-molecular phonon anion-stretching vibration regions. These exhibit over 20 times higher optical-to-THz amplitude conversion efficiency compared to inorganic ZnTe, bandwidth extending up 16 THz. To best our knowledge, is first report showing promising potential diverse photonic applications.
