Introduction Infections caused by Campylobacter spp. represent a severe threat to public health worldwide. National action plans have included source attribution studies as way quantify the contribution of specific sources and understand dynamic transmission foodborne pathogens like Salmonella . Such information is crucial for implementing targeted intervention. The aim this study was predict human campylobacteriosis cases across multiple countries using available whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data explore impact availability sample size distribution in multi-country model. Methods We constructed machine-learning model k -mer frequency patterns input per source. then based on from all countries. Results different sampling strategies were compared assess unbalanced datasets prediction cases. results showed that variety sampled quantity samples each impacted performance Most attributed broilers or cattle individual models. proportion could be with 70% probability decreased when down-sampled set (535 vs. 273 2627 cases). baseline higher sensitivity model, where more evenly distributed. non-domestic but varied depending strategy. Both models most domestic country (baseline: 248/273 cases, 91%; down-sampled: 361/535 67%;). Discussion sizes influence accuracy consequently uncertainty predicted estimates. estimates high number tend overestimated, whereas only few underestimated. Reccomendations future include balanced improve overall utility efforts.

We aimed to characterise Yersinia enterocolitica from human clinical specimens in Switzerland using epidemiological, microbiological and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data. Isolates (n = 149) were collected between January 2019 December 2023. Epidemiological data was noted strains characterized by biochemical serological typing, antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST), WGS-based analysis. Most of the isolates (86%) stool 52% male patients. The patients' median age 28 years (range < 1–94 years). Typing assigned bioserotype 4/O:3 (44%), biotype 1A (34%), 2/O:9 (21%), 3/O:3 (1%). WGS identified Y. 147), alsatica 1) proxima 1). Seven multidrug resistant (MDR) harboured plasmid pAB829 carrying aph(3″)-Ib, aph(6)-Id, tet(Y) 1), pAC120 aph(6)-Id tet(A) 2), or a 12.6 kb Tn2670-like transposon containing catA1, aadA12, sul1, qacEΔ1 4). Virulence factors (VFs) included ail 99), invB, 145), ystA ystB 48) pYV-associated VFs 93). MLST cgMLST analysis showed that BT consisted several STs highly diverse, whereas all ST12 clustered closely, mostly belonged ST18 but more diverse. SNP revealed two clonal subpopulations with wide spatio-temporal distribution. 1A, are frequently associated yersiniosis Switzerland. subtyping is powerful tool explore genetic diversity pathogenic potential isolates.
