A novel adsorbent ZnAl–LDHs/SiO2 (ZA/SiO2) was prepared by blending urea mixture of ZnSO4 and Al2(SO4)3 while using SiO2 as a support form. The adsorption properties ZA/SiO2 for the removal toxic metal ions (Cu(II) Cr(VI)) from water were evaluated. By batch experiment method to investigate Cu(II) Cr(VI) solution treatment effect. sorption kinetics curves on L-shaped. What's more, solid concentration effect found in process kinetics. Langmuir Freundlich isotherm models used analyze data. results showed that conforms models. However, capacity compounds is greatly improved. 158 mg·g−1 176 mg·g−1, which 3.6 1.8 times ZnAl-LDHs (ZA), respectively. Density functional theory (DFT) utilized analysis intrinsic mechanism specific pathways. primary removing mainly included intercalation Cr2O72− exchange between OH−, excluding Cr(OH)3 precipitation. Regarding eliminating water, it involves isomorphic substitution predominant process, except formation Cu(OH)2 precipitates.
