Crop diversification is pivotal in sustainable agriculture, influencing soil microbial communities and nutrient cycling functions. Yet, the impacts of incorporating medicinal plants into crop strategies on functional characteristics these remain understudied. This research elucidates benefits diversified cropping systems by assessing content, diversity composition microorganisms, abundance genes involved carbon (C), nitrogen (N) phosphorus (P) cycling, overall agricultural productivity; collectively referred to as ecological benefits. The experimental design included four treatment groups: (1) continuous maize (Zea mays L.) cultivation (MC); (2) maize–A. lancea (Atractylodes Thunb.) intercropping (MA); (3) maize–sorghum (Sorghum bicolor rotation (MS); (4) combined with sorghum (MSA). Findings indicate that treatments significantly enhance alpha bacterial over fungal communities. NH4+ NO3− predominantly influence communities, a notable increase relative Acidobacteriota, Gemmatimonadota, Chloroflexi. Compared MC treatment, MA MSA increased C (121.44%, 294.26%), N (206.57%, P (112.02%, 225.84%) genes. inverse variance weighting evaluation demonstrates that, compared MS (5.34) (8.15) boost Overall, diversifying A. grains can soil. study offers new perspectives planting, particularly terms species selection practical combinations farmland.

The products of an advanced sewage sludge fermentation process can be used to generate polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), precursors bioplastics considered excellent candidates for replacing petroleum-derived plastics. aerobic feast-anoxic famine cycling strategy has proven efficient method enriching microbiota with PHA-producing microorganisms. This work evaluated the effect different carbon nitrogen ratios (C/N) 3.5, 2, and 1 g COD/g N modulating structure improve PHA production. study was executed on a pilot plant scale using wasted activated as organic source derived from oxic-settling anaerobic that collects wastewater various facilities at University Palermo campus. production performance monitored over three experimental periods characterized by C/N ratio. results showed lower reduced 20, 24, 26 % w/w PHAs COD/N values 1, 3.5 N, respectively. In parallel, metataxonomic analysis revealed higher abundance microorganisms ratio such Proteobacteria, specifically Betaproteobacteria. addition, increase in fungal diversity decrease decreased. Thus, these findings demonstrate utility metataxonomics elucidating relationships between operating conditions, bacterial achievement specific outputs. insights gained this demonstrated positive correlation ratios, microorganisms, yields.

Abstract Background and Aims: This study examines the impact of soil biological parameters on agricultural productivity sustainability across Nigeria's diverse climates. Materials Methods: A multistage sampling method was adopted to collect 108 samples from four southern northern Nigeria locations, three communities, farmers' fields replicated times in a Complete Randomized Block Design (RCBD). Each sample analyzed for initial physicochemical some selected microbial properties. Results: In humid regions, activity high Location 1 (L1), with bacterial densities reaching 12.31 x 107 CFU/ml associated fungal yeast at 1.55 106 SFU/ml 5.08 counts, respectively. indicates bacterial-dominated ecosystem favourable rapid nutrient cycling, although it may risk structure over long term if unmanaged. Conversely, 3 (L3) drier areas showed less 9.83 but higher populations. suggests more environment that could enhance cycling structure, which is essential arid regions. The also investigated how environmental factors farming practices influence balances through hierarchical clustering analysis. Clusters like L3C1F2 L3C2F3 demonstrated balanced ecosystems substantial populations, supporting robust health. Conclusion: research highlights need precise, region-specific accommodate local profiles optimize crop yields sustain health, enhancing food security economic stability Nigeria.

The gut mycobiome, the fungal component of microbiota, plays a crucial role in health and disease. Although fungi represent small fraction ecosystem, they influence immune responses, homeostasis, disease progression. mycobiome’s composition varies with age, diet, host factors, its imbalance has been linked to conditions such as inflammatory bowel (IBD) metabolic disorders. Advances sequencing have expanded our understanding fungi, but challenges remain due methodological limitations high variability between individuals. Emerging therapeutic strategies, including antifungals, probiotics, fecal microbiota transplantation, dietary interventions, show promise require further study. This review highlights recent discoveries on interactions bacteria, disease, potential clinical applications. A deeper contributions will help develop targeted microbiome-based therapies.

Antimicrobial resistance is becoming a critical issue due to the widespread and indiscriminate use of antibiotics antifungals treat common infections, leading growing shortage effective drugs. Moreover, increase in antimicrobial enhancing pathogenicity virulence various pathogens. Microorganisms are key sources chemically diverse specialized metabolites, which produced final stages their growth cycle. These metabolites hold significant value chemical, pharmaceutical, agrochemical industries. One major challenges researchers face this field frequent isolation already-known substances when classical protocols used. To address this, several innovative strategies have been developed. The co-culture approach powerful tool for activating silent biosynthetic gene clusters, as it simulates natural microbial environments by creating artificial communities. This method has shown promising results, with new compounds being isolated yields target improved. In context, review provides examples obtained from co-cultures endophytic fungi, conducted both liquid solid media. Additionally, discusses advantages technique. Significance Impact Study: Microbial valuable strategy discovering products activity, well scaling up production substances. aims summarize important endophyte highlights potential fungi pharmacological applications.
