A significant proportion of SARS-CoV-2 infections in Africa were identified as asymptomatic. With the surge Omicron variant, asymptomatic participants epidemiological surveys key to accurately estimating seroprevalence and true population. This study assessed seroprevalence, active infections, circulating variants Accra, Ghana, during wave. Secondary objectives included assessing association between sociodemographic factors, vaccination, adherence recommended prevention control measures. We conducted a cross-sectional survey Greater Accra December 2021 using standardized questionnaire. Serum naso-oropharyngeal swab samples collected from 1027 individuals aged ≥ 5 years for estimation total antibodies detection infection. The found an overall 86.8% [95% CI: 84.53–88.77]. PCR test positivity was 10%, with Delta accounting 44.1% 8.8% respectively. Vaccination (cOR = 10.5, 95% 4.97–26.9, p < 0.001) older age, particularly 60+ age group 6.05, 2.44–20.2, 0.001), associated increase odds seropositivity among participants. High indication high exposure transmission rates and/or vaccine-induced seroprevalence.

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has led to the emergence of viral variants with distinct characteristics. Understanding differential impacts SARS-CoV-2 is crucial for effective public health response and treatment development. We investigated effects original Wuhan strain emergent Omicron variant using a K18-hACE2 transgenic mouse model. compared mortality rates, loads, histopathological changes in lung tracheal tissues, as well alterations intestinal microbiota following infection. Results Our findings revealed significant differences between variants, causing higher severe pathology, elevated loads variant. Microbiome analyses uncovered novel shifts associated each variant, providing evidence variant-specific microbiome alterations. These suggest microbiome-related mechanisms that might modulate disease severity host responses Conclusions This study highlights critical terms mortality, changes, emphasizing role influencing outcomes. Novel include identification shifts, which underscore potential underlying severity. insights pave way future research exploring microbiome-targeted interventions mitigate other infections.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) underwent a substantial number of alterations, and the accompanying structural mutations in spike protein prompted questions about virus’s propensity to evade antibody neutralization produced by prior infection or vaccination. New SARS-CoV-2 have raised serious concerns regarding effectiveness drugs vaccines against virus; thus, identifying developing potent antiviral medications is crucial combat viral infections. In present study, we conducted detailed silico investigation that involves molecular docking, density functional (DFT) analysis, dynamics (MD) simulations, pharmacological analysis followed an vitro study with protein. Among fifty terpenes screened, cryptotanshinone saikosaponin B2 were found be S1-RBD inhibitors, displaying considerable hydrogen bond interactions key binding site residues, significant affinity, high reactivity attributed band gap energy. addition, 100 ns simulations further substantiated these findings, showcasing stability compounds within biological environment. With favorable pharmacokinetic properties low half inhibitory concentration (IC50) 86.06 ± 1.56 μM, inhibited variant. Our findings account for in-depth research on as inhibitor.

Abstract Coronavirus disease 2019, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), has affected 700 million people worldwide since its outbreak in 2019. The current pandemic strains, including Omicron and large subvariant series, exhibit strong transmission stealth. After entering the human body, virus first infects nasal epithelial cells invades host through angiotensin‐converting enzyme receptor transmembrane serine protease on cell surface. cavity is an important body part that protects against virus. Immunisation of mucosa produces immunoglobulin A antibodies effectively neutralise viruses. Saline irrigation, a type physical therapy, can reduce viral load prevent infections to some extent. As commonly used means fight SARS‐CoV‐2, intramuscular (IM) vaccine induce produce systemic immune response G antibody; however, antibody difficult distribute time cannot achieve good preventive effect. Intranasal (IN) vaccines compensate for shortcomings IM vaccines, mucosal responses, have better effect preventing infection. In this review, we discuss defence barrier, harm mechanism invasion into cells, cleaning, IN suggest increasing development use as supplement vaccines.
