Abstract This study evaluated the effects of garlic powder (GP) as a natural growth promoter in broiler diets, replacing traditional antibiotics. Four experimental groups 264-day-old chicks (Ross 308) were established fully randomized design experiment. Each group had six replicates, each with eleven unsexed chicks. The treatments used follows: 1 st was basal diet without any additive (control group). 2 nd , 3 rd and 4 th (1 GP, GP GP) receving + 1, 2, g GP/kg feed, respectively. Results demonstrated that diets significantly improved feed conversion ratio (FCR), while led to greatest gains body weight, weight gain, intake. Blood analysis revealed elevated total protein, albumin, A/G ratios across all groups, alongside reduced creatinine ALT levels. notably increased HDL cholesterol (TC) LDL concentrations. Immunoglobulin Y (IgY) levels highest birds fed GP/kg, IgM peaking group. Additionally, enhanced superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, marker oxidative stress. In contrast, control exhibited MDA lactic acid bacteria (LAB) bacterial count (TBC) are found However, E. coli . conclusion, incorporating into immune response, blood parameters, overall growth, gut counts optimal observed at GP/kg.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant threat to human, animal, and public health, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where the beef sector is vital food security livelihoods. We conducted scoping review explore determinants impacts of AMR within value chain SSA, highlighting challenges progress mitigating risks livestock production. This identifies key factors contributing AMR, including overuse misuse antimicrobials, inadequate veterinary oversight, weak regulatory frameworks. These practices are prevalent across various stages chain, from farm slaughterhouse, exacerbated by informal markets insufficient infrastructure. Our findings also highlight role environmental factors, such as contamination feed, water, manure, spread resistant pathogens. Additionally, gaps surveillance, education, enforcement limit effective control measures region. While efforts combat have gained momentum some countries, development national action plans surveillance systems, substantial remain. include poor adherence antimicrobial guidelines, training, lack integration between sectors. There need for targeted research better understand misuse, socio-economic drivers, pathways well stronger frameworks cross-border cooperation. Addressing these will be essential safeguarding safety, sustainability industry SSA.

The indiscriminate use of antibiotics in food animal production leads to transmission human through chain. Infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria are a major threat health due increasing the frequency failures treatment. resistant developed animals can come genetic changes, especially horizontal transfer resistance mediating elements. Food preservative methods that rely on environmental factors inhibit bacterial contamination may intensify emergence antibiotic among food-borne pathogens, resulting an increase treatment costs, failure, mortality and spread drug-resistant community. Food-producing serve as source reservoirs for antibiotic-resistant genes. leftover residues accumulate soil other surfaces consequently. impacts excessive usage safety risk chain were discussed this chapter. This chapter also discusses in-depth analysis alternatives antibiotics, such application useful bacteria, bacteriocins, bacteriophages predatory bacteria.

The global misuse of antimicrobial medication has further exacerbated the problem resistance (AMR), enriching pool genetic mechanisms previously adopted by bacteria to evade drugs. AMR can be either intrinsic or acquired. It acquired selective modification horizontal gene transfer that allows microorganisms incorporate novel genes from other organisms environments into their genomes. To avoid an eventual mistreatment, use antimicrobials in farm animal been recently reconsidered many countries. We present a systematic review literature discussing cases and related restrictions applied North American countries (including Canada, Mexico, USA). Google Scholar, PubMed, Embase, Web Science, Cochrane databases were searched find plausible information on food-producing animals, covering time period 2015 2024. A total 580 articles addressing issue antibiotic animals America met our inclusion criteria. Different rates, depending bacterium being observed, class used, considered, have identified. determined highest average rates observed for pigs (60.63% average), medium cattle (48.94% lowest poultry (28.43% average). also found Cephalosporines, Penicillins, Tetracyclines are classes with (65.86%, 61.32%, 58.82%, respectively), whereas Sulfonamides Quinolones leads (21.59% 28.07%, respectively). Moreover, analysis antibiotic-resistant shows Streptococcus suis (S. suis) S. auerus provide (71.81% 69.48%, Campylobacter spp . provides one (29.75%). percentage, 57.46%, was followed Canada at 45.22%, USA 42.25%, which is most probably due presence various control strategies, such as stewardship programs surveillance bodies, existing USA. Our highlights need better strategies regulations spread America.

Small genetic modules, such as toxin-antitoxin (TA) systems, play specific roles in persistence, antibiotic resistance, and virulence pathogenic bacteria. Given the transmission of M. bovis to humans importance spread resistance this bacterium, study aimed compare presence sequences mazEF3, vapBC3, relJK genes type II TA systems both resistant sensitive isolates.
