Abstract BACKGROUND Lanthanum ions (La 3+ ) are of great importance in many applications, so development effective sorbents for selective recovery La is urgently required. In this work, an ion‐imprinted polymeric sorbent La‐RSPY with secondary amine, phenolic, and pyridyl groups was synthesized through a Schiff base reaction between 4‐aminoresorcinol pyridine‐2‐carboxaldehyde, followed by reduction, complexation, base‐catalyzed polymerization resorcinol/formaldehyde. RESULTS showed impressive selectivity to from competitive like Gd , Ru Pr Eu Nd Cd 2+ Zn Cu mixed‐ion systems adsorption capacity 200 ± 1 mg g −1 . Its behavior successfully modeled using the Sips isotherm, while pseudo‐second‐order kinetics further confirmed efficiency process. Spectroscopic analysis NMR, FTIR, SEM also that integrity unaffected. Such better performance due CN, NH, OH give rise stable complexes imprinted spatial configurations tailored binding. CONCLUSION has promise applications analytical chemistry, food safety, wastewater treatment, environmental remediation. Scaling up synthesis, optimizing processes, collaboration industries specializing rare earth or water treatment would increase its practical deployment widen commercial circle. © 2025 Society Chemical Industry (SCI).
