A new organic ligand, 5-(carboxyformamido)isophthalic acid (5-CFIA), was prepared and employed for the synthesis of two compounds [M3(C10H4O7N1)2(8H2O)]·H2O (M = Cd, Mn). Abstract Global release of up to 10 000 tons per year mercury (Hg), the third most toxic ion, into natural environment poses a significant threat public health. However, conventional adsorbents with flexible adsorption sites have limited capability in removal, especially highly acidic and multiple competing ion environments. Herein, Hg(II) coordinated 3,3′,5,5′‐tetrabromo‐2,2′‐bithiophene is selected as building monomer construct porous aromatic framework (PAF) through Suzuki coupling reaction. The positions angles two thiophene fragments are fixed by quadruple covalent bonds according coordination structure ion. These covalently bounded bithiophene units exhibited ≈303% increased binding affinity ≈140.0‐fold enhanced selectivity for ions, compared moieties. In addition, resulting solid ( MI LNU‐49) illustrates outstanding removal concentration varying from 5000.0 2.0 ppb, correspondingly, efficiency over 99.96% within 5 h actual wastewater.
