Abstract Herein, we demonstrate the synthesis of beta-cyclodextrin (β–CD) functionalized polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and iron-based metal-organic framework (Fe–MOF) mixed matrix membrane (MMM) for enhanced removal ciprofloxacin (CIP) from water. The membranes were prepared using phase inversion technique with PVDF as polymer matrix, Fe–MOF filler, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) porogen. optimized MMM 7% wt. exhibited excellent performance 87.6% efficiency. Moreover, maximum adsorption capacity was 6.43 mg g –1 . β–CD functionalization improved hydrophilicity by water contact angle (WCA) analysis (WCA = 55°). Furthermore, can be attributed to large specific surface area (682.5 m 2 ), high porosity (77%), average pore diameter (395 nm) membrane. inclusion PVP (1% wt.) porous nature and, consequently, CIP. Notably, hydrophilic macroporous showed good reusability over 70% efficiency after five sequential adsorption–desorption cycles. insights this study suggest that PMC–7 an candidate remediation organic contaminants aquatic environments.

Poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are among the pollutants of environmental concern besides pharmaceuticals personal care products, microplastics, other persistent organic pollutants. Of all different PFASs reportedly present in environment, most researched perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) perfluorooctane sulfonic (PFOS). In this study, these were detected using a precise, selective, sensitive liquid chromatographic-electrospray ionization single quadrupole mass spectrometric (LC-ESI–Q-MS) method within linear range 0.002–0.02 μg/mL. The developed was thereafter validated according to ICH validation parameters. This used monitor PFOA PFOS selected surface sediments collected environs two prominent rivers KwaZulu-Natal province South Africa: Umgeni Palmiet Rivers.
