A novel hydrogen bond liquid crystal (HBLC) homologous series has been isolated from the combination of 1,2,3,4-butanetetra carboxylic acid (BTCA) and 4-n-alkyloxybenzoic acids (nOBA, n = 4–12). FTIR study confirms formation cyclic H-bond BTCA + nOBA, HBLC complexes by observing peak at 3582 cm−1. Induced mesogenic phases, transition temperatures their enthalpy values are analyzed using POM DSC. The H-bonds increasing alkyloxy chain length greatly influence LC parameters in title complexes. DFT calculations (HOMO-LUMO, MEP, Mulliken charge RDG) validate experimentally observed result.
