The emission of toxic gases such as NO2, NO, SO2, and CO from industrial activities, transportation, energy production poses significant threats to the environment public health. Traditional gas sensors often lack high sensitivity selectivity. To address this, our study uses first-principles density functional theory (DFT) investigate CuO-SnS monolayers for improved sensor performance. results show that CuO modification significantly enhances adsorption capacity selectivity SnS NO2 with energies −2.301 eV −2.142 eV, respectively. Furthermore, is insensitive CO2 adsorption, demonstrating excellent Structural electronic analyses reveal reduces band gap 1.465 0.635 improving electrical conductivity electron transfer, thereby enhancing sensitivity. Further highlight interactions charge transfer mechanisms between SO2 molecules, indicating strong orbital hybridization. In conclusion, this provides a theoretical basis developing high-performance sensors, showing have great potential detecting gases.
