In recent years, the world scientific community has shown increasing interest in rare earth metals general and their nanoparticles particular. Medicine pharmaceuticals are no exception this matter. review, we have considered main opportunities potential applications of metal (gadolinium, europium, ytterbium, holmium, lutetium, dysprosium, erbium, terbium, thulium, scandium, yttrium, lanthanum, neodymium, promethium, samarium, praseodymium, cerium) biomedicine, with data ranging from single reports effects found vitro to numerous independent vivo studies, as well a number challenges for wider application. The areas application metals, including future, diagnosis treatment malignant neoplasms, therapy infections, use antioxidant regenerative properties nanoparticles. These determined both by themselves need search new approaches solve urgent biomedical public health problems. Oxide forms lanthanides most often used biomedicine due greatest biocompatibility nanoscale size, providing penetration through biological membranes. However, existing contradictory or insufficient on acute chronic toxicity still make widespread difficult. There various modification methods (addition excipients, creation nanocomposites, changing morphology particles) that can reduce these effects. At same time, despite some representatives clinical practice, further studies establish full range pharmacological toxic effects, modify remain relevant.
