Sn-TiO₂/PTA Nanocomposite Films for High-Contrast Rewritable Media with Visible-Light-Driven Black Coloration

Photochromic
materials
are
pivotal
for
rewritable
smart
media,
yet
conventional
systems
suffer
from
sluggish
kinetics,
UV
dependency,
and
low
optical
contrast.
Herein,
we
present
a
visible-light-responsive
Sn-TiO2/phosphotungstic
acid
(PTA)
nanocomposite
film
mediated
by
polyvinylpyrrolidone
(PVP)
that
addresses
these
challenges
through
interfacial
engineering
bandgap
modulation.
Sn-doped
TiO2
nanoparticles,
synthesized
hydrothermally,
covalently
linked
to
phosphotungstic
clusters
via
PVP-assisted
dispersion,
enabling
efficient
charge
separation
under
450
nm
illumination.
The
Sn-TiO2/PTA/PVP
achieves
ultrafast
coloration
within
10
s,
attributed
the
reduction
of
W6⁺
W5⁺
in
PTA.
colored
state
exhibits
remarkable
air
stability
(48
h)
rapid
recovery
(<30
min)
H2O2
vapor,
sustaining
>80
reversible
cycles
without
degradation.
With
narrowed
(2.23
eV)
broadband
intervalence
transfer
(IVCT)
absorption
(600–800
nm),
demonstrates
high-contrast
black-state
2-day
legibility
as
medium.
This
work
overcomes
limitations
organic
dyes
UV-dependent
systems,
offering
an
inorganic,
eco-friendly
platform
displays,
anti-counterfeiting
labels,
energy-efficient
photochromic
technologies.

Abstract
Bio‐inspired
autonomous
smart
polydimethylsiloxane
(PDMS)
and
its
composite
materials
hold
immense
promise
for
a
wide
range
of
applications
in
electrical
electronic
devices.
These
mimic
natural
protective
mechanisms
with
self‐healing,
self‐reporting,
self‐cleaning
properties,
enabling
innovative
efficient
device
design.
Smart
PDMS
autonomously
activate
repair
response
to
mechanical
or
damage,
achieving
rapid
structural
functional
recovery
preventing
failure
due
the
accumulation
minor
damage.
can
intuitively
report
their
status
through
striking
color
changes,
fluorescence,
luminescence
when
exposed
external
stimuli,
providing
practical
visual
feedback
health
monitoring
fault
warning.
They
also
have
capacity
effectively
eliminate
contaminants
ice
deposits
from
surfaces,
thereby
ensuring
stable
operation.
This
review
aims
introduce
current
research
progress
self‐cleaning,
self‐reporting
materials.
The
systematically

principles,
methodological
innovations,
mechanistic

Abstract
Organic–inorganic
composite
photochromic
coatings
receive
significant
attention
in
energy
utilization
and
conservation
due
to
their
easy
application
rapid
photoresponse.
However,
high
sensitivity
moisture
limits
practical
applications.
This
study
fabricates
organic–inorganic
functional
using
a
simple
one‐pot
method,
producing
materials
with
excellent
photoresponsive,
water
resistance,
thermal
insulation.
Unmodified
phosphotungstic
acid
serves
as
the
inorganic
filler,
while
methacrylate
derivatives
act
polymer
matrix,
resulting
initial
transparency
(over
85%).
After
5
min
of
UV
exposure,
samples
shift
nearly
non‐transmittable
states
visible
range
maintain
color
depth
through
14
coloring‐erasing
cycles.
Unlike
polyvinylpyrrolidone
substrates,
which
absorb
soften
quickly,
this
coating
has
static
contact
angle
up
91.7°,
showing
resistance.
Additionally,
material
provides
effective
heat
insulation
simulated
chamber
experiments,
lowering
temperature
by
15
°C
compared
untreated
chambers.
In
summary,
coating,
its
insulation,
light
responsiveness,
stable
cycling
performance,
outstanding
waterproof
capabilities,
proves
highly
suitable
for
applications
such
smart
windows,
information
storage,
building
efficiency.
