Abstract With increasing focus on the importance of integrating nature spaces and nature-based solutions into our cities, what are key priorities pathways for action in Australian cities? Cities are at the forefront of sustainability agendas, especially as places to implement solutions needed address key challenges. City-level governments have responded in diverse ways these challenges, including adopting and implementing a mix policies improve resilience liveability that issues heat mitigation, water security, climate risks. To support such strategies, we argue mainstreaming, process embedding novel thinking into governance practice, urgently needs be comprehensively understood leveraged. Therefore, drawing on empirical theoretical research focusing mainstreaming nature-based urban planning, examine systematically conceptualise planning process. Drawing recent case study forestry across metropolitan Melbourne, Australia, show how identified drivers mechanisms can successfully applied. The resulting framework emphasises need for dynamic understanding processes what ensures they enabled accelerated cities. Further, this may applied well other innovations.

Australia is experiencing an accelerated rate of climate-related extreme weather events, and many the solutions to reduce exposure climate-risk are nature-based, governing urban forests, waterways, stormwater. However, governance nature-based in Australian cities still fragmented piecemeal, generally lacking a coherent narrative widespread support. What needed institutional spaces that mainstream such solutions. In this paper, we draw on case study forestry implementation across metropolitan Melbourne, as lens examine creation evolution spaces. We explain functions design characteristics from perspective requirements for establishing maintaining what produced or outcomes The mobilisation important understand impact planning individual well region. Our key findings frame relational, learning-oriented, collaborative, empowering facilitate transformative agendas actions mainstreaming cities. From these findings, identify seven recommendations how practitioners can make most

This study explores the use of simulated natural drainage systems for sustainable urban landscape planning to address flood disasters in low-lying areas. Traditional methods lack sustainability, whereas systems, such as green infrastructure, rain gardens, and wetland parks, can enhance resilience environmental quality through scientific design strategic layout. In San Francisco, issue areas has become increasingly severe, with traditional struggling effectively manage risks under extreme weather conditions. This employs R programming simulate evaluating their effectiveness mitigating improving ecological environments. By utilizing rainfall data, topographic system data from a simplified hydrological model was constructed calculate catchment runoff, simulating effects systems. Results indicate that significantly reduce benefits. The findings provide planners new management strategies, emphasizing importance integrated systemic thinking, highlight future potential widespread application planning. integrating water resource principles, this proposes systematic solution validated case studies different cities, demonstrating its feasibility effectiveness. research offers insights control engineering planning, contributing enhanced disaster improved living simulation facilitates development, providing valuable references advancement planning.
