Substance use disorders (SUDs) constitute a growing global health crisis, yet many limitations and challenges exist in SUD treatment research, including the lack of objective brain-based markers for tracking outcomes. Electroencephalography (EEG) is neurophysiological technique measuring brain activity, although much known about EEG activity acute chronic substance use, knowledge regarding relation to abstinence outcomes sparse. We performed scoping review longitudinal pre-post studies that explored putative changes function associated with and/or individuals SUD. Following PRISMA guidelines, we identified published between January 2000 March 2022 from online databases. Search keywords included EEG, addictive substances (e.g., alcohol, cocaine, methamphetamine), related terms abstinence, relapse). Selected used at least one time point as predictor or other treatment-related outcomes; examined pre- vs. post-SUD intervention (brain stimulation, pharmacological, behavioral) effects. Studies were also rated on risk bias quality using validated instruments. Forty-four met inclusion criteria. The advancement of neurotechnological tools for meditation and mindfulness training may help to accelerate many the transformational states traits that result from consistent practice. However, adopting a traditional one-size-fits-all approach in development tools, such as neurofeedback applications training, will likely limit potential benefits; individual differences compensatory mechanisms strongly impact both efficacy given protocol, well how foundational skills are acquired. Here we emphasize importance embracing propose novel, personalized intervention technologies sidestep potentially deleterious outcomes. Given growing interest research on effects brain, behavior, overall health, briefly address some philosophical cultural challenges associated with translating contemplative practices into applications, further accentuating need individualized multimodal approaches.

Abstract Reward processing is essential for our mental-health and well-being. Here, we present the development validation of a scalable fMRI-informed EEG model related to reward in ventral-striatum (VS); central circuit node. Simultaneous EEG/fMRI data were acquired from 17 healthy individuals listening pleasurable music, used construct one-class regression predicting reward-related VS-BOLD signal using spectro-temporal features EEG. Validation analyses, applied on different group (N=14), revealed that predicted activation simultaneous greater extent than derived another anatomical region. The VS-EEG-model was also modulated by musical pleasure predictive during monetary task, further indicating it functional relevance. These findings provide compelling evidence use yet precise EEG-only probe VS-originated processing, which could serve process specific neruo-monitoring -modulation.

Adolescence is characterized by a heightened vulnerability for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) onset, and currently, treatments are only effective roughly half of adolescents with MDD. Accordingly, novel interventions urgently needed. This study aims to establish mindfulness-based real-time fMRI neurofeedback (mbNF) as non-invasive approach downregulate the default mode network (DMN) in order decrease ruminatory processes depressive symptoms.

Abstract Objectives Managing cancer symptoms while patients receive systemic treatment remains a challenge in oncology. The use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) approaches like virtual reality (VR) neurofeedback (NF) tandem with might reduce symptom burden for patients. combination VR + NF as CAM intervention approach is novel understudied, particularly it relates to supportive care. purpose this study summarize our protocol share preliminary results regarding retention (across 2 sessions) impact or on patient-reported outcomes such anxiety pain. Methods We utilized parallel arm trial design compare only among who are actively receiving treatment. Results Sixty-seven percent ( n = 20) participants returned participate second session, the rates return were same between groups. Patients group showed improvements after both sessions, significant pain depression sessions. improved session 1. Significance This demonstrates that can be retained over multiple sessions remain promising regard

Background Despite a wide variety of research and clinical utilization over the past 50 years, neurofeedback has failed to gain recognition comparable other well-researched mental health interventions. The goal this study was explore practitioners' perspectives on what would help make intervention more accessible providers public. Methods As part larger implementation using mixed methods identify determinants implementation, qualitative utilized portion semi-structured interviews with practitioners practicing in an outpatient setting (n = 17) specifically participants' ideas around increasing accessibility intervention. Results sample mostly White 15, 88%) female 13, 76%) average age 53 years (range: 34-73 years). They averaged 17.8 practice 3-36 years) 8 1-20 Three major themes increase were identified: (a) financial support, including insurance coverage; (b) better provider education, introduction into graduate school curriculum; (c) research/research funding. Conclusion Study participants described specific strategies readily available routine healthcare. These findings reveal avenues uptake healthcare future directions for science field.

Abstract Despite the documented efficacy of neurofeedback (NFB) in treatment people with anxious symptomatology, many insurance companies identify NFB as experimental, which prohibits individuals from utilizing benefits to obtain this therapeutic treatment. In order examine discrepancy, present meta‐analyses were conducted overall effectiveness NFB, impact participant characteristics, and extent differences anxiety‐spectrum outcomes. Twenty‐six articles divided based on design (12 single group (SG); 14 between‐group (BG)) analyzed separate meta‐analyses. Overall, results indicated that self‐report assessments reduced by nearly one (SG SDM = −0.94; BG g −0.87) standard deviation unit relatively small degrees bias. This study reports findings first exhaustive search literature, included coming a total 17 databases/repositories. Applications are limited Caucasian adults symptoms anxiety or PTSD.
