Abstract Delirium is a neuropsychiatric syndrome consisting of an abrupt onset mental status alteration and fluctuating course, characterized by alterations in cognition, attention, perception, level consciousness. It one the six leading causes preventable conditions hospitalized older adult patients associated with increased rates morbidity mortality, prolonged hospital stays, decreased quality life, long-term cognitive impairment. Unfortunately, old age independent risk factor for its development, increasing probability 2% per year each after 65. Despite elevated prevalence, delirium remains unrecognized underdiagnosed across cultures nations. Current practices worldwide are mostly inadequate regarding identification, prevention, timely management delirium. Therefore, early accurate recognition critical to improving outcomes, decreasing healthcare costs, patient minimizing negative complications.

The COVID-19 pandemic represents an unprecedented global emergency. Despite all efforts, remains a threat to public health, due the complexity of mass vaccination programs, lack effective drugs, and emergence new variants. A link has recently been found between risk developing severe infection high level oxidative stress. In this context, we have focused our attention on natural compounds with aim finding molecules capable acting through dual virucidal-antioxidant mechanism. particular, studied potential grapefruit seed extracts (GSE) their main components, belonging class limonoids. Using chemical biological approaches including isolation purification GSE, antioxidant virucidal assays, shown that constituents, limonoids, are endowed remarkable virucidal, mitoprotective activity.
