Background. Gait is influenced by higher order cognitive and cortical control mechanisms. Functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) has been used to examine frontal activation during walking in healthy older adults, reporting increased oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO2) levels dual task (DT), compared with usual walking. Objective. To investigate the role of lobe DT obstacle negotiation, adults patients Parkinson’s disease (PD). Methods. Thirty-eight (mean age 70.4 ± 0.9 years) 68 PD 71.7 1.1 years,) performed 3 tasks: ( a) walking, b) c) obstacles fNIRS accelerometers. Linear-mix models were detect changes between groups within tasks. Results. Patients had P < .030). During DT, HbO2 only .001). = .001) tended increase .053). Higher cost .003) worse performance observed Conclusions. A different pattern was groups. The suggests that prefrontal cortex plays an important already simple However, relative baseline negotiation not demonstrates depends on nature task. These findings may have implications for rehabilitation gait PD.

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a noninvasive neuroimaging technique that uses low-levels of light (650–900 nm) to measure changes in cerebral blood volume and oxygenation. Over the last several decades, this has been utilized growing number functional resting-state brain studies. The lower operation cost, portability, versatility method make it an alternative methods such as magnetic resonance imaging for studies pediatric special populations without confining limitations supine motionless acquisition setup. However, analysis fNIRS data poses challenges stemming from unique physics technique, statistical properties data, diversity non-traditional experimental designs being due flexibility technology. For these reasons, specific technology must be developed. In paper, we introduce NIRS Brain AnalyzIR toolbox open-source Matlab-based package management, pre-processing, first- second-level (i.e., single subject group-level) analysis. Here, describe basic architectural format toolbox, which based on object-oriented programming paradigm. We also detail algorithms major components including analysis, probe registration, image reconstruction, region-of-interest statistics.

Social interactions are a crucial part of human life. Understanding the neural underpinnings social is challenging task that hyperscanning method has been trying to tackle over last two decades. Here, we review existing literature and evaluate current state method. We type methods (fMRI, M/EEG, fNIRS) used measure brain activity from more than one participant simultaneously weigh their pros cons for hyperscanning. Further, discuss different types analyses estimate networks synchronization. Lastly, present results studies in context cognitive functions relations interactions. All all, aim comprehensively methods, analyses, 20 years research.

Upon adequate stimulation, real-time maps of cortical hemodynamic responses can be obtained by functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), which noninvasively measures changes in oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin after positioning multiple sources detectors over the human scalp. This review is aimed at giving a concise simple overview basic principles fNIRS including features, strengths, advantages, limitations, utility for evaluating behavior. The transportable/wireless commercially available systems have time resolution 1 to 10 Hz, depth sensitivity about 1.5 cm, spatial up cm. has been found suitable many applications on beings, either adults or infants/children, field social sciences, neuroimaging research, medicine. Some examples present future prospects assessing cerebral cortex function during behavior different situations (in natural situations) will provided. Moreover, most recent studies investigating interpersonal interactions adopting hyperscanning approach, consists measurement brain activity simultaneously two more people, reported.
