Abstract Despite all neurobiological/neurocomputational progress in psychiatric research, recent authors speak about a ‘crisis of contemporary psychiatry’. Some argue that we do not yet know the computational mechanisms underlying psychopathological symptoms (‘crisis mechanism’) while others diagnose neglect subjectivity, namely first-person experience subjectivity’). In this perspective, propose Phenomenological Psychopathology, due to its focus on space and time, is an ideal position address crisis subjectivity and, if extended brain’s spatiotemporal topographic-dynamic structure as key Spatiotemporal mechanism. We demonstrate how experiences time differ between schizophrenia, mood disorders anxiety allowing for their differential-diagnosis – addresses subjectivity. Presupposing shared features brain, experience, “common currency”, abnormal may also serve template neuro-computational Preliminary scientific evidence our examples bipolar disorder, depression support such clinically relevant determination both (crisis subjectivity) mechanism). conclusion, converging Psychopathology with might help overcome translational psychiatry by delineating more fine-grained neuro -phenomenal mechanisms; offers novel candidate biomarkers diagnosis therapy including pharmacological non-pharmacological treatment.

Consciousness science is marred by disparate constructs and methodologies, making it challenging to systematically compare theories. This foundational crisis casts doubts on the scientific character of field itself. Addressing it, we propose a framework for comparing consciousness theories introducing novel inter-theory classification interface, Measure Centrality Index (MCI). Recognizing its gradient distribution, MCI assesses degree importance specific empirical measure has given theory. We apply probe how measures Global Neuronal Workspace Theory (GNW), Integrated Information (IIT), Temporospatial (TTC) would fare within context other two. demonstrate that direct comparison IIT, GNW, TTC meaningful valid some like Lempel-Ziv Complexity (LZC), Autocorrelation Window (ACW), possibly Mutual (MI). In contrast, problematic others anatomical physiological neural correlates (NCC) due their MCI-based differential weightings structure sum, introduce provide proof-of-principle systematic method comparisons, thereby addressing isolated evolution confirmatory bias issues in state-of-the-art neuroscience consciousness.

Despite major progress in our understanding of the brain, connection neural and mental features, that is, brain mind, remains yet elusive. Meditation encompasses a range of practices employing diverse induction techniques, each characterized by distinct attentional focus. In Mantra meditation, for instance, practitioners direct their attention narrowly to given sentence that is recursively repeated, while other forms meditation such as Shoonya are induced wider Here we aimed identify the neural underpinnings and correlates associated with this spectrum foci. To accomplish this, used EEG data estimate brain's intrinsic timescales (INTs), is, its temporal windows activity, calculating Autocorrelation Window (ACW) signal. The autocorrelation function measures similarity timeseries time-lagged version itself correlating signal on different time lags, consequently providing an estimation INTs length. Therefore, through using ACW metric, our objective was explore whether there correspondence between length activity width scope during various techniques. This performed three groups highly proficient belonging traditions, well meditation-naïve control group. Our results indicated focus, like exhibit longer durations compared requiring narrower or body-scanning Vipassana meditation. The self is the core of our mental life which connects one's inner with external perception. Since synchrony a key feature biological world and its various species, what role does it play for humans? We conducted large-scale psychological study (n = 1072) combining newly developed visual analogue scales (VAS) perception internal cognition complemented by several questionnaires. Overall, findings showed close connection both (i.e., body cognition) others, environment/nature) being associated positively adaptive negatively maladaptive traits self. Moreover, we have demonstrated how events like COVID-19 pandemic) variables modulate self's internal-external synchrony. These suggest plays central during times uncertainty.

Abstract A balanced mind, or equanimity, cultivated through meditation and other spiritual practices, is considered one of the highest mental states. Its core features include deidentification non-duality. Despite its significance, neural correlates remain unknown. To address this, we acquired 128-channel EEG data (n = 103) from advanced novice meditators (from Isha Yoga tradition) controls during an internal attention (breath-watching) external task (visual-oddball paradigm). We calculated auto-correlation window (ACW), a measure brain’s intrinsic timescales (INTs) assessed equanimity self-report questionnaires. Advanced showed higher levels shorter duration INTs (shorter ACW) breath-watching, indicating with contents. Furthermore, they demonstrated no significant differences in between tasks, non-dual awareness. Finally, correlated participants’ subjective perceptions equanimity. In conclusion, show that INT may serve as marker

Abstract Intrinsic neural timescales, which reflect the duration of information storage within local brain regions and capacity for integration, are typically measured using autocorrelation windows (ACWs). Extraction intrinsic timescales from resting-state activity has been extensively applied in psychiatric disease research. Given potential as a marker disorders, investigating their reliability is crucial. This study, an open-source database, aimed to evaluate test–retest ACW-0 ACW-50 under both eyes-open eyes-closed conditions across three sessions. The intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were employed quantify timescales. Our results showed that exhibited good (ICC > 0.6) at whole-brain level different index types eye states. Spatially, except right temporal region condition, all other moderate-to-high ICCs. Over 60% electrodes demonstrated timescale ICCs conditions, with being more stable than ACW-50. Moreover, new dataset, above consistently reproduced. present study comprehensively assessed various providing robust evidence stability neuroscience psychiatry.
