Chronic pain is a common public health problem that has detrimental impact on patient health, quality of life (QoL), and function, poses substantial socioeconomic burden. Evidence supports the redefinition chronic as distinct disease entity, not simply symptom injury or illness. conditions are characterized by three types pathophysiology (i.e. nociceptive, neuropathic, centralized pain/central sensitization) influenced cluster coexisting psychosocial factors. Negative risk/vulnerability factors (e.g. mood sleep disturbances) positive resilience/protective social/interpersonal relationships active coping) interact with neurobiology to determine patients' unique experience. Viewing through biopsychosocial lens, instead purely biomedical one, clinicians need adopt practical integrated management approach.
