Dopamine
is
an
important
neurotransmitter
that
plays
a
key
role
in
neuropsychiatric
illness.
Sex
differences
dopaminergic
signaling
have
been
acknowledged
for
decades
and
linked
to
sex-specific
heterogeneity
both
dopamine-related
behaviours
as
well
various
disorders.
However,
the
overall
number
of
studies
evaluated
sex
dopamine
signaling,
health
these
disorders,
low.
This
review
will
bring
together
what
known
regarding
innate
receptor
expression
function,
highlight
roles
addiction,
depression,
anxiety,
schizophrenia,
attention
deficit
hyperactivity
disorder.
Due
prognosis,
diagnosis,
symptomatology
between
male
female
subjects
disorders
involve
or
responses
utilize
pharmacological
interventions
target
receptors,
understanding
fundamental
receptors
vital

therapeutic

Early-life
stress,
including
maternal
separation
(MS),
increases
the
vulnerability

Significance
Addiction
is
characterized
by
compulsive
drug
use
despite
negative
consequences.
In
a
rat
model
of
methamphetamine
self-administration,
we
found
that
compulsive-like
taking
was
correlated
with
alterations
in
the
balance
between
an
increased
orbitofrontal
cortex-dorsomedial
striatal
“go”
circuit
and
decreased
prelimbic
cortex-ventrolateral
“stop”
only
addictive-like
subgroup
resistant
to
foot
shock
punishment
paired
taking.
nonaddictive-like
rats,
go-stop
balance,
which
similarly
changed
after
repeated
self-administration
without
punishment,
normalized
toward
baseline
levels
punishment.
These
results
indicate
restoring
physiological
perhaps
noninvasive
brain
stimulation,
may
provide
promising
avenue
for
addiction
treatment
when
coupled
neuroimaging
assess
clinical
responses
determine
adequacy
course
treatment.
