Previous studies demonstrated an asymmetry of left predominance for mean values soluble leucine aminopeptidase (LeuAP) activity in the frontal cortex (FC) and hypothalamus adult male rats, fluorimetrically analyzed by hydrolysis Leu-β-naphthylamide as a substrate. No asymmetries were observed nine other (L) right (R) regions obtained from rostro-caudally sectioned coronal slices. Neither had inter-hemispheric differences lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), simultaneously same brain (L R) animals. However, level intra-hemispheric or correlation LeuAP LDH between such has not been analyzed. In order to obtain additional suggestions on functional heterogeneity LDH, present investigation, correlations with rest studied is described: (A) (LFC) regions; (B) (RFC) (C) all (D) regions. All positive. The analysis showed greater RFC than LFC Greater when comparing conclusion, greatest (suggesting variability) was hemisphere. results great homogeneity both intra- studies.

Cuprizone (CPZ) is a widely used toxin that induces demyelinating diseases in animal models, producing multiple sclerosis (MS)-like pathology rodents. CPZ one of the few toxins triggers demyelination and subsequent remyelination following cessation its application. This study examines functional consequences CPZ-induced recovery neural communication within anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), with particular focus on inter-hemispheric connectivity via corpus callosum. By employing wide-field, high-speed, voltage-sensitive dye imaging, we were able to provide real-time mapping activity ACC CPZ-fed mice. Although could not record physiological signals from callosum, results demonstrated notable impairment connections most pronounced loss observed specific coronal slice among series slices examined. Notably, latency signal propagation remained largely unaltered despite loss, indicating affects extent, rather than temporal dynamics, communication. It noteworthy while appeared recover fully after CPZ, histological analysis revealed only partial myelination, discrepancy between structural recovery. These findings enhance our understanding how ACC's role orchestrating activity, particularly light slice-specific nature interhemispheric impairments. offer new insights into MS pathology, regarding callosum potential therapeutic strategies.

Abstract Sensorimotor processing in the human brain is largely lateralized, with corpus callosum integrating these processes into a unified experience. Following complete callosotomy, this integration breaks down, resulting disconnection syndromes. We asked how much of sufficient to support functional unity—the absence syndrome—by comparing three callosotomy patients one retaining only splenium. Using lateralized tasks across visual, tactile, visuospatial, and language domains, we predicted domain-specific deficits splenium-only patient based on established anatomical models callosal topography. Strikingly, while exhibited syndromes, splenium demonstrated unity all domains—as if his entire were intact. Our findings highlight brain’s remarkable capacity maintain behavioral through minimal preserved pathways, highlighting structure-dependent reorganizational allows preserve unity.

The surgical section of the corpus callosum (callosotomy) has been frequently demonstrated to result in a left-ear extinction dichotic listening. Functional connectivity (FC) is defined in terms of temporal correlations between physiological signals, which mainly depend upon structural (axonal) connectivity; it commonly studied using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Interhemispheric FC appears mostly supported by the corpus callosum (CC), although several studies investigating this aspect have not provided conclusive evidence. In context, patients whom CC was resected for therapeutic reasons (split-brain patients) provide a unique opportunity research into issue. The present study aimed at with resting-state fMRI interhemispheric six epileptic who undergone surgical resection CC.

Abstract The corpus callosum (CC) is a large white matter fiber bundle in the brain and involved various cognitive, sensory, motor processes. While implicated developmental psychiatric disorders, much yet to be uncovered about normal development of this structure, especially young children. Additionally, while sexual dimorphism has been reported prior literature, observations have not necessarily consistent. In study, we use morphometric measures including surface tensor‐based morphometry (TBM) investigate local changes shape CC children between ages 12 60 months, intervals months. We also analyze sex differences each these age groups. observed larger significant clusters earlier v 24 m 48 localized anterior region body CC. Sex were most pronounced group. This study adds growing literature work aiming understand developing emphasizes utility TBM as useful tool for analyzing regional neuroanatomical morphometry.

Unilateral stimulation tongue applied eight patients with partial or total callosal resection by placing a small cotton pad soaked salty solution on either side tongue. Functional images were acquired 1.5 Tesla machine. Diffusion tensor imaging and tractography also performed. evoked bilateral activation GI all patients, including those CC, prevalence ipsilateral hemisphere stimulated side. Bilateral observed somatic sensory cortex (SI) most which more intense contralateral SI. This report confirms previous functional studies carried out control subjects neuropsychological findings callosotomized showing that pathways from are bilaterally distributed, an predominance.
