In order to improve a vibrational power generator using magnetostrictive material, i.e., Iron-gallium alloy, and flow-induced vibration of cantilevered cylinder, fixed splitter plate was installed behind circular cylinder. Effects gap between cylinder on the performance response amplitude, vortex shedding frequency were investigated through wind tunnel experiments. Flow visualizations around also conducted by smoke-wire method high-speed camera. While it is known that rigid splitter plates play significant roles in flow control, the exact of them flow-induced vibration (FIV) have not been systematically investigated. This has motivated present work to experimentally investigate FIV a cylinder equipped with an upstream plate (USP), downstream (DSP), and symmetrically arranged water tunnel Reynolds number 1100–7700. The length range L* = 0–3.6 (L*=L/D, L length, D diameter). response characteristics, vortex evolution, fluid force, pressure fields are thoroughly analyzed. Both USP DSP can succeed oscillation mitigation drag reduction. However, dramatic galloping observed for 0.4–3.2. low-pressure region forms near beneficial trigger galloping. For USP, only vortex-induced found, transition branches corresponds variation frequency phase jumps total transverse force force. mode from 2S 2P disappears long length. Flow visualization reveals induced by alters shedding. Furthermore, high-pressure tip yielding obstructive suppresses growth oscillation. With combination DSP, weak excited narrow 1.0–1.8, linear increase also broken due existence USP.

Some very useful methods for suppressing the flow-induced vibration (FIV) of a single cylinder are known to potentially have limited efficiency tandem-arrangement cylinders. In this paper, three splitter plates uniformly attached around with an angle 120° proposed suppress FIVs both and two cylinders in wind tunnel at Re = 4000–45,200. The plates’ length diameter ratios, L/Ds (where L is plate D diameter), set from 0.1 0.8. results show that method not only effectively suppresses vortex-induced (VIV) cylinder, but also successfully mitigates wake-induced galloping (WIG) vibrations suppressed, consistently achieving suppression efficiencies over 95% 0.2–0.8, notable peak 98.4% L/D 0.2. For S/D 4.0 S center-to-center spacing between cylinders), upstream exceed 96% optimal 97.4% 0.6. downstream exhibits 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, resulting 80.3%, 67.1%, 91.0%. remain fully suppressed throughout entire reduced velocity range 0.6–0.8, reaching 98.7% Three regimes fs/fn characteristics can be classified wake structures shear layers develop along front before attaching on then offset either side by rear plates, contributing absence periodic vortex shedding.
