The roles of rigid splitter plates in flow-induced vibration of a circular cylinder

While
it
is
known
that
rigid
splitter
plates
play
significant
roles
in
flow
control,
the
exact
of
them
flow-induced
vibration
(FIV)
have
not
been
systematically
investigated.
This
has
motivated
present
work
to
experimentally
investigate
FIV
a
cylinder
equipped
with
an
upstream
plate
(USP),
downstream
(DSP),
and
symmetrically
arranged
water
tunnel
Reynolds
number
1100–7700.
The
length
range
L*

0–3.6

The Suppression of Flow-Induced Vibrations for a Single and Two Tandem-Arrangement Cylinders Using Three Splitter Plates

Some
very
useful
methods
for
suppressing
the
flow-induced
vibration
(FIV)
of
a
single
cylinder
are
known
to
potentially
have
limited
efficiency
tandem-arrangement
cylinders.
In
this
paper,
three
splitter
plates
uniformly
attached
around
with
an
angle
120°
proposed
suppress
FIVs
both
and
two
cylinders
in
wind
tunnel
at
Re
=
4000–45,200.
The
plates’
length
diameter
ratios,
L/Ds
(where
L
is
plate

diameter),
set
from
0.1
0.8.
results
show
that
method
not
only
effectively
suppresses
vortex-induced
(VIV)
cylinder,
but
also
successfully
mitigates
wake-induced
galloping
(WIG)
vibrations
suppressed,

achieving
suppression
efficiencies

95%
