In the present study, a simple immersion boundary method was developed to numerically simulate fluid-structure-acoustic coupling problem of underwater vehicles and their towed super long cables. A typical vehicle connected with different cable models at positions created in this study. The length is 4356 mm, cables are approximately 4 6 times length, i.e., 17,424 mm 26,136 freestream velocity 7.72 m/s (15 kts). simulation, velocities 9.26 (18 kts), 5.14 (10 respectively. simulated by solve flow field structure, profile, transverse near cable, compute pressure pulsation huge lengths extremely small diameters, analyze noise. results show that have relatively impact on distribution around system; however, occurs thereby affecting changes causing significant noise problems. Furthermore, it also found closer connection position center position, more downstream fields higher sound level

Purpose This study aims to develop an inertial piezoelectric energy harvester mounted in a cylinder and use the flow-induced motion (FIM) harvest abundant water flow for powering electronic devices ocean. Design/methodology/approach A two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) structure is designed flowing excite FIM. Two vertical columns were placed close downstream direction. When oscillates water, collisions with will be generated offer frequency up-conversion mechanism inside harvester. The system analyzed theoretically based on fluid mechanics. prototype fabricated experimental verification. Experiments explored low-speed circulating channel. trajectories of experimentally investigated. Parametric studies carried out regarding speed, gap distance between cantilever beam length. Findings results show that at speed 0.371 m/s 17 cm, maximum power output 861.39 µW one element. Originality/value 2DOF have larger oscillation amplitude than one-degree-of-freedom which helps transfer into energy. applied

This numerical study investigated the influence of heave plate's diameter on amplitude transitional motions a marine circular cylinder (MCC) with low aspect ratio under current and regular waves. Due to experimental model straked MCC, different diameters plate were chosen be installed at keel 3-straked MCC. In this study, varied from 1.2 1.6 DMCC, while other parameters, such as reduced velocity (VR), Reynolds (Re) number, Froude kept constant. motions, including surge, sway, heave, analyzed. The results showed that increasing decreased in both Also, finding revealed not only motion but also surge sway motions. Moreover, outcomes indicated increased by approximately 20%–40% more than MCC's diameter. caused smaller currents

Abstract The current manuscript addresses fluid–structure interaction (FSI) problems to the analysis of vortex-induced vibration (VIV), employing methodology designated as IMERSPEC2D. approach seamlessly integrates Fourier pseudo-spectral method (FPSM) and immersed boundary (IBM) solve Navier–Stokes (NS) continuity equations. Simultaneously, effects cylindrical structure, involving 1 2 degrees freedom (d.o.f.) are simulated, by incorporating structural motion equations into NS via IBM source term implementing a two-way FSI algorithm. In paper presented comparison low high-order temporal integration methods applied dynamic behavior structure dimensionless cylinder’s equations, resulting in an increase computational time step from 1E( $$-9$$ - 9 ) $$-3$$ 3 ). Validation results refined mesh simulations include accurate representation lock-in phenomenon d.o.f. obtaining range between reduced velocity 5.456 5.568 maximal amplitude is 0.352. Notably, eight-shape pattern cylinder displacement obtained formation C2S wake patterns achieved, other authors. conclusion, reduces time, while both IMERSPEC advancement improve alters distinct vortex shedding fluid dynamics.
