Influenza vaccination hesitancy and related factors among pregnant and breastfeeding women: A cross-sectional study

Achieving
safe
influenza
vaccination
coverage
among
pregnant
and
breastfeeding
women
is
a
global
health
goal
due
to
the
potential
risks
of
serious
for
both
mother
child.
However,
vaccine
hesitancy
remains
significant
barrier
uptake.
Since
anxiety
represents
determinant
in
decision-making,
this
study
aimed
assess

between
women's
characteristics,

reluctance,

multicentre,
cross-sectional

2022

structured
phone
interviews

socio-demographics

infection

pregnancy;

attitudes
toward
Vaccination
Attitudes
Examination
(VAX)
Scale;
(5)
levels,
measured
by
Self-Rating
Anxiety
Scale
(SAS).
Among
387
participants,
22.8%
were
already
vaccinated
or
expressed
willingness
be
against
influenza,
54%
had
an
disorder.
While
not
significantly
associated
with
hesitancy,
ongoing
pregnancy
emerged
as
independent
predictor
anxiety.
Higher
educational
pregnancy,
being
get
vaccinated,
employed
reduced
while
prior
SARS-CoV-2
increased
hesitancy.
Fear
unpredictable
events
lack
healthcare
professionals'
recommendations
reasons
reluctance.
Given
low
rates,
these
findings
highlight
need
services
enhance
efforts
provide
clear
counter
misinformation
ensure
accurate
safety
information.

Background:
HPV
vaccination
reduces
the
risk
of
anogenital
warts,
high-grade
cervical
intraepithelial
neoplasia
(CIN2+),
and
cancer.
To
enhance
immunogenicity,
vaccines
include
adjuvants
such
as
toll-like
receptor
agonists,
which
may
theoretically
trigger
autoimmune
responses.
However,
existing
data
on
this
remain
conflicting.
This
systematic
review
meta-analysis
assess
association
between
disease
onset
in
post-licensure
controlled
studies.
Methods:
A
comprehensive
literature
search
was
conducted
Scopus,
PubMed/MEDLINE,
ScienceDirect,
Cochrane
Library
from
inception
to
June
2024,
following
PRISMA
guidelines.
The
study
protocol
registered
PROSPERO
(CRD42024606834).
Results:
total
356
studies
were
identified,
including
cross-reference
reviews.
Fourteen
met
inclusion
criteria
for
qualitative
quantitative
analysis,
encompassing
8,088,838
patients,
whom
2,041,865
received
vaccine.
Conclusions:
found
no
significant
development.
further
large-scale
observational
are
needed,
particularly
among
male
recipients,
current
evidence
is
predominantly
based
female
populations.
Future
research
should
also
evaluate
risks
specific
disorders

vaccine’s
safety

clinic
central
Michigan

the

of
educational
interventions
enhancing
knowledge
attitudes

populations.
Utilizing
pre/post
prospective
design,
participants
received
either
video
or
infographic
intervention,
followed
by
survey
assessing
attitudes.
Results:

indicate
significant
improvements
post-intervention,

both
modalities

effective.

Comprehensive
prenatal
care
incorporates
recommended
vaccines
