Aquatic germplasm repositories can play a pivotal role in securing the genetic diversity of natural populations and agriculturally important aquatic species. However, existing technologies for repository development operation face challenges terms accuracy, precision, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, especially microdevices used gamete quality evaluation. Quality management is critical throughout resource protection processes from sample collection to final usage. In this study, we examined potential using three-dimensional (3-D) stereolithography resin printing address these evaluated overall capabilities limitations representative industrial 3-D printer with price US$18,000, consumer-level

Development of reliable germplasm repositories is critical for preservation genetic resources aquatic species, which are widely utilized to support biomedical innovation by providing a foundational source naturally occurring variation and development new variants through manipulations. A significant barrier in repository the lack cryopreservation capability reproducibility across research community, posing great risks losing advances developed from billions dollars investment. The emergence open scientific hardware has fueled movement communities. With increasing accessibility consumer-level fabrication technologies, such as three-dimensional printers, devices can be custom designed, design files distributed community members enhancing rigor, reproducibility, standardization. overall goal this review explore pathways create open-hardware ecosystems among communities using model research. To gain feedback insights members, an interactive workshop focusing on applications was held at 2022 Aquatic Models Human Disease Conference, Woods Hole, Massachusetts. This work integrates conceptual strategies with practical derived interactions examples development. These generalized establishment broad community. specific objectives were to: (1) introduce ecosystem concept research; (2) toward four major areas, (3) identify opportunities future directions.
