The unfolding of geopolitical tensions on social networks: a social network analysis of Twitter and Reddit conversations

Purpose Social networks can not only mobilize individuals for collective action but also pose risks, potentially leading to political challenges and societal unrest. Information consumption varies across platforms, with platform characteristics influencing user interactions information sharing; yet this has received limited attention in scholarly literature. Acknowledging platform-specific differences, paper seeks enhance our understanding of the mechanisms driving diffusion on social context geopolitical tensions. Design/methodology/approach The structural communication features Twitter Reddit are explored using schema theory concept media schema. Comparisons drawn network analysis content dynamics surrounding tensions India–Qatar relations, followed by between India Pakistan. Findings results illustrate how content-based connections foster closer ties within subreddits less connectivity them, contrasting Twitter’s profile-based connections. NewsSlant: Analyzing Political News and Its Influence Through a Moral Lens

Political news is often slanted toward its publisher's ideology and seeks to influence readers by focusing on selected aspects of contentious social political issues. We investigate slants in their analyzing election-related readers' reactions the Twitter. To this end, we collected from six major U.S. publishers who covered 2020 presidential election. computed each slant based favorability two parties' candidates. find that coverage shows signs both headlines The difference candidates between left-leaning ( left ) right-leaning xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">right statistically significant. effect size larger for Twitter than headlines. And, expresses stronger sentiments identify moral foundations foundation theory. Moral differ significantly, though effects are small. Due to the prominence of social networks since second decade twenty-first century, online reputation has become essential for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The University Chile, a public institution, faced reputational communication crisis at end 2022 due disclosure on X (formerly Twitter) two theses that relativized concept pedophilia. This situation raised questions about ethical integrity and permissiveness in academic research HEI. employed qualitative methodological approach, complemented by descriptive quantitative data. study unfolded distinct phases. Initially, comprehensive review comments related controversy was conducted. Subsequently, were systematically compiled organized table, content downloaded from Export Comments platform. From pool 4,680 messages, representative sample 500 selected. The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked numerous discussions on social media platforms, with users sharing their views topics such as mask-wearing and vaccination.
