Sarcopenia, a geriatric syndrome characterized by progressive skeletal muscle mass and function decline, poses significant health risk among the elderly, contributing to frailty, falls, hospitalization, loss of independence mortality. The prevalence sarcopenia varies significantly based on various factors, such as living status, demographics, measurement techniques diagnostic criteria. Although overall is reported at 10% in individuals aged 60 above, disparities exist across settings, with higher rates nursing homes hospitals. Additionally, differences between Asian non-Asian countries highlight impact cultural ethnic variations criteria, cut-off values assessment methods contribute observed heterogeneity rates. This review outlines diverse criteria several supporting decision making clinical practice. Moreover, it facilitates selection appropriate tools assess sarcopenia, emphasizing its multifactorial nature. Various scientific groups, including European Working Group Sarcopenia Older People (EWGSOP), International (IWGS), (AWGS), American Foundation for National Institutes Health (FNIH) Definition Outcomes Consortium (SDOC), have published consensus papers outlining definitions sarcopenia. choice should be aligned specific objectives study or practice, considering characteristics population available resources.

Physical activity and exercise can limit the development of sarcopenia in Parkinson's Disease. This review aims to evaluate potential effects behavioural change (BC) interventions on self-efficacy adherence people with Parkinson's. We searched nine databases included randomised non-randomised studies reporting self-efficacy, quality life (QoL), physical function and/or adherence. Two reviewers independently screened, data extracted, assessed risk bias certainty evidence. The were mapped Theoretical Domains Framework. Eleven (n=901) included. Four trials was mixed. Objective To explore the impact of aerobic and resistance training on walking balance abilities (UPDRS-III, Gait Velocity, Mini-BESTest, TUG) in individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Method All articles published between year inception July 2024 were obtained from PubMed, Embase, Web Science. Meta-analysis was conducted RevMan 5.4. Result Research 15 randomized controlled trials, comprising 792 older patients a diagnosis PD, included analysis. Aerobic (AT) Resistance (RT) significantly improved UPDRS-III (AT, SMD = -5.69, 95% CI: -8.67 to -2.71, p 0.0002, I 2 82%; RT, -3.01, -4.89 -1.12, 0.002, 0%) Velocity(AT, 0.88, 0.58 1.18, < 0.00001, 42%; 0.52, 0.10 0.94, 0.01, 55%). AT showed no difference Mini-BESTest 2.12, -0.70 4.94, 0.14, 90%). RT change TUG (RT, -0.03, -1.60 1.54, 0.97, I2 63%). Conclusions stood out as most effective approach boost performance mini-BESTest. Conversely, exercise proved be superior for improving UPDRS-III, gait velocity scores.

Gait disturbance is one of the most common symptoms in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) that closely associated poor clinical outcomes. Recently, video-based human pose estimation (HPE) technology has attracted attention as a cheaper and simpler method for performing gait analysis than marker-based 3D motion capture systems. However, it remains unclear whether HPE feasible measuring temporospatial kinematic parameters PD how this function varies camera position. In study, treadmill overground walking 24 early was measured using system two smartphone cameras placed on near-frontal lateral sides subjects. We compared differences characteristics between joint position data obtained from markerless HPE. Our results confirm feasibility analyzing Although view, where heel toe are clearly visible, effective estimating temporal parameters, view particularly well-suited assessing spatial angles. settings recordings not feasible, can still serve practical alternative to

Introduction: Sarcopenia is a skeletal muscle disease manifesting as low mass and impaired function. It has been reported that sarcopenia correlates with quality of life (QOL) an increased risk falls in patients Parkinson's (PD). Nevertheless, few studies have investigated the prevalence, impact, screening methods Japanese PD. Methods: was diagnosed based on Asian Working Group for 2019 consensus. We compared demographic characteristics, severity PD, levodopa equivalent daily dose, QOL, fatigue, impulsive compulsive behaviors, body index (BMI), calf circumference, (SMI), handgrip strength, 4-meter gait speed, five-time sit-to-stand test (FTSST), short physical performance battery, SARC-F questionnaire scores between non-sarcopenia groups. Furthermore, to investigate best tool sensitivity specificity FTSST, were compared. Results: The prevalence PD 31.9% (15/47). group showed significantly higher age (77.3 ± 5.12 versus 70.3 8.17, p = 0.0042), lower BMI (19.3 2.99 23.3 3.18, 0.0002), rate decreased circumference (86.6% 34.3%, 0.0013) SMI (100% 6.25%, < 0.0001), worse FTSST (15.5 5.57 12.0 4.12, 0.0219). other parameters not different.
