There are many ways that trust plays a crucial role in science, both between researchers and various communities impacted by their research. Scientific practices can operate either facilitate, or undermine, science. This contribution will examine the of science communication facilitating (or undermining) public science-based policy recommendations. be done looking at some potential failures during COVID-19 pandemic have to undermine scientists. Finally, I draw out lessons this case has for how we might improve practices.

The COVID-19 pandemic challenged the public health system to respond an emerging, difficult-to-understand pathogen through demanding behaviors, including staying at home, masking for long periods, and vaccinating multiple times. We discuss key challenges of communication efforts deployed in United States from 2020 2022 identify research priorities. One priority is communicating about uncertainty ways that prepare disagreement likely changes recommendations as scientific understanding advances: How can foster a sense “science works intended” rather than “the experts are clueless” prevent creating void be filled by misinformation? A second concerns culturally fluent framework asking people engage difficult novel actions: messages perception difficulties behavior change signal important “is not like me?” third entails shift strategies focus on knowledge attitudes interventions norms, policy, channel factors impair change: we move beyond educating correcting misinformation achieving desired actions?

COVID-19 outbreak caused severe disruptions in daily life, partly due to limitations implemented prevent the spreading. In France, it included school closures during a national lockdown, then reopening of schools, with access depending on viral status students and teachers. Those changes had an impact children's mental health. We conducted online cross-sectional study using parental self-administered survey December 2021 explore emotional behavioral (EBC) this 5th wave (W5) retrospectively since first one (W1) their children multidimensionality principal factor analysis (PCA) stability analysis. Out 4552 parent responders, 62.4% (n = 2839) noticed negative EBC W1 54.1% 2462) W5 pandemic. Only 10.0% responders at but not W5. younger (3-6 years old) significant EBC, PCA revealed three main dimensions W5: restlessness, depression anxiety. older (7-13 old), showed partially similar dimensions: depression-suicidality, anxiety withdrawal. Almost all correlations between were significantly positive. Every was stable across waves, except for one. Recall bias concerning lack data health should be taken into account. Our found strong correlation results highlighted predictive aspect its early deterioration.

The current study investigates the factors influencing face-mask-wearing practices among elderly individuals in rural Thailand. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving qualitative interviews with 15 participants and a subsequent survey of 201 elders. Seven subthemes were identified, including perceived benefits mask-wearing, threat COVID-19, mask-wearing enhancing attractiveness self-confidence, social norms, misconceptions about COVID-19 prevention tools, barriers to resources afford face masks. developed themes, codes, quotes utilized for creating questionnaire. revealed adherence 81.1% mask-wearing. Structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis demonstrated that motivation, comprising (1) (2) alternative threats aside from (3) mask strongly affected (β = 0.68, p < 0.001) willingness wear 0.61, 0.001). Social norms had negative direct effect on barrier -0.48, positive 0.25, This highlights motivation play pivotal roles sustaining behavior populations. Encouraging local cooperative actions through community rules could initiate behavioral changes within community. These findings contribute understanding provide insights into designing effective interventions promote areas.
