Background Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) is a major type of hereditary cancer. Establishing effective screening to identify high-risk individuals for HBOC remains challenge. We developed prototype chatbot system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) preliminary determine whether meet the National Comprehensive Cancer Network BRCA1/2 testing criteria. Objective This study’s objective was validate feasibility this in clinical setting by using it on patient population visited hospital. Methods validated medical accuracy performing test patients who consecutively Kanagawa Center. The participants completed preoperation questionnaire understand their background, including information technology literacy. After operation, qualitative interviews were conducted collect data usability acceptability examine points needing improvement. Results A total 11 enrolled between October December 2020. All women, among them, 10 (91%) had According questionnaire, 6 (54%) never heard chatbot, while 7 (64%) used one. able complete average time required operation 18.0 (SD 5.44) minutes. determinations met criteria based family history consistent with those certified genetic counselors (CGCs). compared histories obtained from CGCs chatbot. Of participants, 3 (27%) entered different CGCs. These discrepancies caused participant’s omissions or communication errors Regarding histories, provided new complemented members 5 (45%) not interviewed could obtain some due several reasons, such as being outside scope chatbot’s interview questions, omissions, Interview classified into following: (1) features, (2) appearance, (3) preferences, (4) concerns, (5) benefits, (6) implementation. To conduct a systematic review on Artificial Intelligence-Mediated Communication (AIMC) behavioral interventions in cancer prevention/control and substance use. Eight databases were searched from 2017 to 2022 using the Population Intervention Control Outcome Study (PICOS) framework. We synthesized findings of AIMC-based for adult populations or use, applying SIGN Methodology Checklist 2 quality assessments reviewing retention engagement. Initial screening identified 187 studies; seven met inclusion criteria, involving 2768 participants. Females comprised 67.6% (n = 1870). Mean participant age was 42.73 years (SD 7.00). Five studies demonstrated significant improvements use recovery, physical activity, genetic testing, dietary habits. AIMC shows promise enhancing health behaviors, but further exploration is needed privacy risks, biases, safety concerns, chatbot features, serving underserved populations. There critical need foster comprehensive fully powered collaborations between technology developers, healthcare providers, researchers. Policymakers can facilitate responsible integration technologies into systems, ensuring equitable access maximizing their impact public outcomes.
