Sleep deprivation (SD) is commonplace in today's fast-paced society. SD a severe public health problem globally since it may cause cognitive decline and even neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's disease. Melatonin (MT) natural chemical secreted by the pineal gland with neuroprotective effects. The purpose of this study was to investigate protective effect mechanism MT on chronic sleep deprivation-induced impairment. A 3-week modified multi-platform method used create rat model. ABSTRACT Aims This study investigated the roles of lateral basal forebrain glial cell line–derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) signaling and cholinergic neuron activity, apoptosis, autophagy dysfunction in sleep deprivation–induced increased risk chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) mice. Methods Sleep deprivation (6 h per day from −1 to 3 days postoperatively) was administered mice receiving skin/muscle incision retraction (SMIR) determine whether perioperative induces mechanical thermal hypersensitivity, increases pain, causes changes neurons activity (c‐Fos immunostaining), apoptosis (cleaved Caspase‐3 expression), (LC3 p62 expression) GDNF expression.
