The Pacific seahorse ( Hippocampus ingens) is an important cultural and economic resource for coastal communities in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. However, conservation this species threatened by overfishing, habitat loss, lack awareness about its ecological importance. In study, we examine local knowledge use residents Sinaloa. Through ethnographic interviews participant observation, document traditional practices associated with species, including habitat, behavior, uses. We find that has played a crucial role management seahorse, community-based approaches are necessary to address challenges facing species. Our study provides insights into marine highlights need more collaborative participatory Sinaloa other regions.

Ovoviviparity and male pregnancy represent distinctive reproductive strategies in seahorses. However, the detailed process of gonadal development seahorses, particularly pot-bellied seahorse (Hippocampus abdominalis), remains largely unknown. In this study, we investigated complete under captive breeding conditions (18 ± 1 °C). Immediately after birth, primordial germ cells (PGCs) were found within genital ridge, enclosed by a single layer somatic cells. Around 7–9 days birth (DAB), ovary begins to differentiate. By 30 DAB, two germinal ridges had formed along edge follicular lamina ovary. The primary oocytes, resulting from differentiation process, gradually migrated dorsal sides mid-ventral area ovary, eventually maturing into eggs. testis, secondary spermatocytes appeared at 15 respectively, preceding formation testicular lumen (50 DAB). testis was observed consist large compartment. Under Northern China, demonstrated year-round capability, with each producing approximately 100–150 larvae. findings study contribute valuable insights aquaculture enhance understanding unique strategy employed

Seahorses, pipefishes, and seadragons are fishes from the family Syngnathidae that have evolved extraordinary traits including male pregnancy, elongated snouts, loss of teeth, dermal bony armor. Seahorse is a unique fish belonging to the genus Hippocampus. It has horse-like head, tubular mouth, and body covered with rings of armoured plates until tip prehensile tail. Seahorses are traded for human consumption ornamental purposes. However, dry product seahorses major demand traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The products such as keychains, earrings brooches also support growing ‘curio’ trade. There limited amount published data on seahorse distribution in Malaysia despite increasing pressure exploitation, this study was carried out review available information, identify knowledge gaps draw attention towards sustainability populations. To date, twelve species have been reported Malaysia. Most these found East In Sabah, 11 12 tropical encountered. This does not include Japanese dwarf seahorse, Hippocampus mohnikei. Among eleven Sabah seven common size seahorses, H. barbouri, comes, histrix, kelloggi, kuda, spinosissimus trimaculatus four pygmy bargibanti, denise, satomiae pontohi, that were previously identified severnsi. highlights importance conservation wild population need farming means lessening exploitation stocks while meeting demand.

During the evolution of astacin metalloprotease family genes, gene duplication occurred, especially in lineage teleosts, which several types astacins containing six conserved cysteines (c6ast) emerged. One them is patristacin, originally found syngnathid fishes, such as pipefishes and seahorses. Patristacin expressed brood pouch present on same chromosome other c6ast (pactacin nephrosin) genes. We first surveyed all genes from 33 teleost species using a genome database, characterized by phylogenetic analysis. Pactacin nephrosin homologs were examined with only few exceptions, while patristacin lineages. The multicopy most Percomorpha, one diverged groups teleosts. Further diversification occurred during Atherinomorphae, Percomorpha. Fishes Atherinomorphae possess two belonging to subclades 1 2. Among Atherinomorpha, we chose southern platyfish examine expression. Platyfish eight homologs, called XmPastn1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11. Of these XmPastn2 belongs subclade 1, seven belong Only showed strong expression organs adult platyfish, observed reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction RNA extracts. Cells expressing predominantly mucus-secreting cells epidermis around jaw, revealed in-situ hybridization. This result suggests that secreted may contribute mucus formation or secretion.
