Freeze-thaw is a common stress at high altitudes in northern China. There risk of cadmium (Cd) contamination the region. γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) natural product that regulates plant growth. Rye (Secale cereale) was used as research material to investigate physiological effects exogenous GABA on rye seedlings under single and combined stresses freeze-thaw cadmium. The results showed severely inhibited shoot length, root fresh weight, dry increased malondialdehyde hydrogen peroxide contents, significantly decreased superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. Foliar application 5 mM alleviated negative seedling growth, soluble protein content, reduced contents. Exogenous also enhanced activities SOD peroxidase (POD). Additionally, presence activated metabolic process encouraged accumulation phytochelatins, glutathione, non-protein thiol. These indicate can effectively improve resistance Cd by regulating antioxidant enzyme system enhancing its own detoxification mechanism, they provide basis for future applications GABA, which beneficial ecological protection.
