PURPOSE: Physically Active learning (PAL) and Movement Breaks (MBs) are popular methods for encouraging increased Physical Activity (PA) within curriculum time. Both have also been claimed to enhance pupil’s cognitive academic performances. However, existing research evidence is inconsistent in finding support such claims there no studies directly comparing the two methods. Consequently, this study investigated acute effects of lessons taught using PAL or incorporating MBs on Cognitive Academic Performances (AP) PA Levels. METHOD: 355 children (aged 8-10 years) from three schools Northern England participated a cluster-randomised trial. Classes pupils were assigned participate one types of, 45 min long, mathematics lesson (Lesson-type: PAL, MB Traditional). activity during was measured accelerometery pre- post-lesson participants completed battery standardised assessments assessing their Maths Fluency (measure AP) (Attentional) Control. RESULTS: Compared Traditional (sedentary) lessons, associated with being significantly more Moderately Vigorously time (95% CI: +9.86 11.06 min). reduced spent sedentary by larger margin than -16.60 21.70 variation over Attentional Control measures not moderated Lesson-Type, Bayes Factors indicating favour null hypothesis (All Time X Lesson-Type interactions had BF10 ranging 0.29 0.04). CONCLUSIONS: effectively increase student’s levels These benefits do come at expense performances but neither these outcomes appear acutely enhanced.

Summary Objectives This study aimed to explore the association between coronavirus disease (COVID‐19) pandemic and overweight incidence among preadolescent elementary school children in Japan. Methods A population‐based longitudinal was conducted Adachi City, Tokyo, Japan, using data from Child Health Impact of Living Difficulty (A‐CHILD) study. The control group (2016–2018) comprised 434 children, COVID‐19 exposure (2018–2020) included 3500 children. Overweight defined as a body mass index (BMI) z‐score 1 SD or more according World Organization standards. design involved comparing BMI z‐scores before after pandemic, considering associated lifestyle changes potential consequences on physical activity, parental employment status income. Results By 6th grade, prevalence increased 17.7% 19.2% 22.5% 29.5% group. Difference‐in‐differences analysis revealed that children's significantly (coefficient 0.22, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.14–0.29) higher odds ratio (odds 2.51, CI 1.12–5.62), even adjusting for time‐varying covariates. Abstract The ongoing study of factors that hinder physical activity (PA) supports the adaptation intervention strategies to changing conditions and creation a more conducive environment for active lifestyles. aim was analyze barriers Polish participation in sports recreational activities (SRA) before after pandemic. Face-to-face interviews were conducted twice with representative sample Poles (in 2016 N=12183 household members, 2021 N=8351). Descriptive statistical analysis using frequency relative (%). A Chi-square test independence used relationships between perceived non-participation or recreation gender age respondents. In 2021, 38.8% (36.7% women 41.0% men) declared SRA (regularly occasionally), 7.6 % point decrease number those compared 2016. 20.6% respondents participated regularly 2021. Compared 2016, (21.7%) difference not statistically significant. Men regular often than (23.1% vs. 18.1% – 2021). Four main identified: (1) lack free time especially among 30 39-year-olds, 40 49-year-olds men; (2) interest, willingness preference passive leisure 15 19-year-olds; (3) having medical condition doctor’s contraindications 50 59-year-olds 60 older; (4) 60-year-olds. These have been overcome over time, persisted even gained importance during COVID-19 pandemic addition contraindications. We therefore turn our attention eliminating these barriers, taking into account their specific populations. It is essential motivate people internal through social support, health care, government actions.

Abstract Background Insufficient physical activity, high screen time, and unhealthy dietary patterns among adolescents may have worsened during the pandemic, but data are lacking. This study compared time fruit vegetable intake in from Dunedin, New Zealand, 5–6 years before (Study 1) 2) COVID-19 pandemic. Methods Adolescents completed an online survey as part of Built Environment Active Transport to School (BEATS) studies 2014/2015 1; n = 1,266; age: 15.3 ± 1.4 years; 54.6% female) 2021/2022 2; 819; 15.2 47.4% female). The proportion meeting guidelines for activity (≥ 60 min/day moderate-to-vigorous activity), outside school (≤ 2 h/day) (> 1 serving/day both vegetables) was calculated. Data were analysed using multivariable linear logistic regression modelling. Results Few met recommended health behaviour guidelines. Compared Study 1, significantly greater proportions at (16.7% vs. 23.1%; p < 0.001) (13.3% 18.3%; while not different (29.6% 27.0%; 0.322). average lower on weekdays (5.0 2.9 4.6 2.9; weekend days (6.9 3.5 6.1 3.6 h/day; 0.001). Reported frequency consuming sweets higher soft drinks versus 1. Conclusions Despite observed levels pandemic pre-pandemic levels, few points. Therefore, comprehensive promotion that aims improve is still necessary prevent chronic conditions adulthood.

Abstract Physical activity (PA) is understood to be important for the prevention and treatment of depression, however, less known about effects withdrawal from PA on mood. Here we consider evidence published since outbreak SARS‐CoV‐2 virus assess impact COVID‐19 pandemic patterns evaluate whether engagement in context had an depression vulnerability. During initial stages consequent lockdowns, there were global decreases PA, with women, ethnic minorities, lower‐education, lower‐income, younger, elderly people displaying more marked reductions PA. Less was associated a higher risk experiencing moderate‐to‐severe symptoms, particularly those who decreased their levels compared pre‐pandemic. Both sedentary behavior independently such that low high amounts sitting both increased likelihood clinically significant symptoms. We also role social connection during movement; while in‐person online can foster sense belonging, some socially distant, pandemic‐safe movement might disincentivise certain groups as older adults experienced exercisers participating conclude several implications prospective public health communications regarding especially event another pandemic.

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are rapidly invading education leading to transformation in this area. During the COVID-19 pandemic, traditional educational process was moved a remote environment, educators faced many challenges maintaining same quality as face-to-face teaching. Physical (PE) lessons should be marked out special case. The aim of research determine relationship 8–12th-grade Lithuanian students information reveal students’ experiences participating PE lessons. A total 268 selected by convenience sampling method filled questionnaire consisting four blocks with 53 closed 4 open questions divided into topics. relationships between physical activity during quarantine its predictors were assessed using linear hierarchical regression analyses. It estimated that computer literacy skills slightly higher than average, positive attitudes towards ICT would prevail. In lessons, usually exercised independently or together video program. Students’ expectations for included performance sports, interesting active challenges, opportunity independent. Older who spent more time had lower less physically fit. quarantine, fitness decreased.
