Nanofiltration (NF) technology is increasingly used in the water treatment and separation fields. However, most research has focused on refining selective layer while overlooking potential role of supporting layer. With expertise ultrathin polymer films, particularly production polyethylene (PE) membranes, we explore possibility improving NF membrane performance by precisely controlling structure surface properties this work. Here, introduced an innovative that a submicrometer PE produced through biaxial stretching process, which significantly thinner than commercial membranes available market. The core innovations are as follows: first, precise control rather just layer, achieving significant enhancements overall performance; second, served tunable interface for interfacial polymerization, offering possibilities structural advancing innovations. resulting boasts thickness ∼630 nm, represents thinnest documented to date. This showed ultrahigh Cl–/SO42– selectivity 338.03, placing it at forefront existing literature. study sheds light important preparation layers. We believe approach contribute development ultrathin, high-performance membranes.
