Antarctica, with its harsh environmental conditions, is home to a wide variety of microorganisms, including filamentous fungi. The survival Antarctic mycoflora has led increasing interest in their adaptation. Extreme low temperatures, water availability, frequent freeze–thaw cycles, strong winds, ultraviolet radiation, etc., are all prerequisites for accelerated production reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the occurrence oxidative stress (OS). fungi have effective mechanisms cope damaging effects ROS. While distribution, morphology, physiology, biotechnological potential these well documented, role adaptation poorly understood. This been one main research topics our team long time, number papers on results published. review summarizes existing literature induction psychrophilic, psychrotolerant, mesophilic by extreme conditions. most recent relevant studies reporting relationship between cold OS biomarkers ROS key intracellular biomolecules presented. contribution both enzymatic non-enzymatic antioxidant defenses fungal cell response discussed.
