Purpose This study aims to examine the adoption of Metaverse technology in manufacturing industry and its potential impact on firms’ social environmental sustainability performance. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 157 technology-based firms Malaysian high-tech analyzed using PLS-SEM investigate influence (i.e. capital, open/innovative culture empowerment) technological factors digitalization preparedness, integrability strategic value) moderating roles digital trust absorptive capacity. Findings Social found significantly adoption, with enhancing factors. Absorptive capacity strengthens abilities use for adoption. However, does not moderate relationship between nor this relationship. Finally, is shown positively contribute sustainability, improving well-being equity, but it sustainability. Practical implications For practitioners, highlights importance fostering an organizational that supports developing as critical enablers successful Policy include need creating supportive policies encourage transformation efforts aligned goals. Originality/value Theoretically, integrates Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework, Human-Organization-Technology fit (HOT-fit) framework Resource-Based View (RBV) improve understanding From a managerial perspective, supporting
