Context Tongguling National Nature Reserve in Hainan highlights the ecological significance of marine and coastal ecosystems. However, their sensitivities are often overlooked, emphasising need for improved evaluation methods to ensure sustainable management. Aims This study aims develop an advanced framework that accurately assesses landscape sensitivity regions, thereby supporting targeted conservation management strategies fragile Methods The employed fuzzy mathematics analytic hierarchy process (AHP) introduce a co-ordination method tailored environments, utilising comprehensive values degrees as key indicators. Key results When applied Hainan, effectively identified critical areas with heightened sensitivity, including zones vital maintaining water quality protecting habitats. indicated moderate high levels, highlighting where efforts should be prioritised mitigate negative effects. Conclusions model proposed this is robust, providing insights immediate long-term ecosystem Implications findings establish basis future decision-making within reserves, potentially guiding similar evaluations other regions.

Abstract There is an urgent demand for substantial reforms in the governance of coastal regions. Recent research advocates a transformative shift European system towards landscape approach. This perspective, informed by narrative literature review on and governance, explores potential value drawing Council Europe Landscape Convention. Our results, presented form manifesto, underscore need to move beyond political administrative boundaries address all landscapes as socio-ecological systems. It emphasises necessity State recognise them public common good, establishing specific arena with dedicated actors institutions. The manifesto also justice through knowledge co production, urging change based regional design envision alternative futures. Additionally, it calls regionalising invites scholars from other transdisciplinary interdisciplinary perspectives contribute this agenda.

Abstract Context Anthropogenic landscape change is an important driver shaping our environment. Historical analysis contributes to the monitoring and understanding of these processes. Such analyses are often focused on specific spatial scales single research methods, thus covering only limited aspects change. Objectives Here, we aim assess potential combining historical aerial imagery local stakeholder interviews for studies using a standardized mapping interviewing approach. Methods We compared six agricultural landscapes across Europe mapped land-cover (starting between 1930 1980, depending data availability, until recent years) with object-based image random forest classification. For perspectives change, conducted oral history (OHIs) (almost) retired farmers. Comparing recorded changes from both approaches provided insight into advantages two methods. Results Object-based enabled identification high-resolution dynamics, scale enlargement cropland/grassland expansion being most commonly recurring trends European landscapes. Perceived identified in OHIs included farm management, structure, infrastructure. Farmers also reported drivers personal values associated Combining tools resulted qualitative quantitative land-cover, land use, management. Conclusions physical farmer key comprehensive There different ways methods can be combined, leading venues science policy making.

This study explores strategies for promoting sustainable development in urban public spaces by focusing on transforming and reusing closed landfill sites. Using landscape regeneration theory the genius loci principle from architectural phenomenology, this research investigates spatial redesign techniques to facilitate utilization of these Through analysis three representative case studies specific application Zhangjiawan Landfill site Xining City, Qinghai Province, northwest China, elucidates practical approaches function transformation, constructing community networks, heritage preservation cultural continuity. From an macro-planning perspective, post-closure design Municipal emphasizes organic linkages with adjacent city parks, fostering integration enhancing recreational opportunities residents. The transformed area facilitates social interaction cultivates a harmonious atmosphere repurposing incorporate farms, centers, outdoor sports facilities. Moreover, integrating leisure spaces, exhibitions, ecological restoration initiatives contributes ecosystem rehabilitation while providing residents leisure, engagement, enrichment spaces. demonstrates how effective transformation can promote environmental education, preservation, functionality redeveloping theoretical insights presented contribute advancing practices planning space utilization.
