The application of digestate to soil represents a common practice for its recycling, but degraded lands achieve their restoration and sequester organic C into the is still almost unexplored. In this context, study describes first attempt use from low-tech digester in Colombia. An experimental site (2700 m2) previously subjected intensive mono-cultivation was treated with 4 months (40 Mg ha-1 dry weight). Soil samples were collected (0, 4, 8, 12 after application) evaluate chemical biochemical parameters, as well total stocks fractionation among different pools. Results showed that pH (from 5.3 6), 1.9 3 %), N 0.17 0.27 available P 10 68 mg kg-1), exchangeable nutrients content (K, Mg, Ca, Fe), respiration rate, microbial biomass N, metabolic activities exhibited an increasing trend application, leading recovery biological fertility (i.e. index increased 8 19 range 1 20). Digestate promoted sequestration more stable recalcitrant digesters may thus represent win-win resource strategy enhance land recovery, contribute climate change mitigation support rural communities. circular bioeconomy afforestation appears most promising take advantage restored land.

ABSTRACT The production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) through anaerobic fermentation is a significant strategy for the resource utilization excess sludge (ES). However, limitations low temperatures and slow ES hydrolysis rates have resulted in less than optimal volatile acid (VFA) accumulation. This study reports new method improving low-temperature VFA using peracetic (PAA) pretreatment elucidates underlying mechanisms. results showed that at 10 °C, PAA significantly enhanced release organic matter during fermentation, increasing soluble chemical oxygen demand concentration liquid, thereby creating conditions subsequent acidification processes VFAs When dosage was 9%, reached approximately 239.5 mg COD/g suspended solids (VSS), which 1.47 times control group. Mechanistic analysis revealed improved under but inhibited consumption, increased activity enzymes related to processes, suppressed F420, enhancing findings provide an alternative solution biological ES.

Abstract Ribavirin (RBV) is a quintessential antiviral medication frequently detected in wastewater. However, the impact of RBV on biological treatment wastewater has rarely been reported to date. This study investigates influence enhanced phosphorus removal process by controlling influent concentration and elucidates underlying mechanisms. The results indicated that low concentrations ribavirin (below 0.05 mg/L) did not significantly affect EBPR efficiency, while exceeding 0.1 mg/L reduced chemical oxygen demand (COD) soluble orthophosphate, with higher exposure leading poorer performance. High decreased organic matter sludge its settleability. At an 2.0 mg/L, volume index increased, but volatile suspended solids 3.25 ~ 3.41 g/L. Exposure increased content extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), more significant increase EPS content, notably protein. specific uptake rate microorganisms, amounts resulting pronounced decrease (SOUR). also promoted release reactive species lactate dehydrogenase, reducing microbial metabolic activity.

This study evaluates the long-term effects of swine wastewater (SWW) on relevant parameters for soil fertility, including calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), potassium (K) cations, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and organic matter (OM) in an agricultural area with 9 years crop cultivation. Three types SWW (raw, after leaving biodigester, manure plant) were analyzed four application rates (0, 100, 200, 300 m3.ha−1), associated or not mineral fertilization, resulting eight treatments. The found that use had significant parameters. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to summarize data. soil’s (CEC) levels higher soybean compared other crops natural soil. Similarly, treatment 0 m3.ha−1 pig without fertilization showed these nutrients. In contrast, greater quantities oats, from doses manure, fertilization. a content soil, corn raw showing most increase.

Langmuir model can accurately describe the data with amount 47.30 mg/g pH=5. kinetic process could be analyzed using Pseudo-second-order. Biochar has large wastewater treatment volume, based on column experiment. π-electrons play an important role in adsorption, mechanism analysis. good stability after three cycles. also application potential used lithium ion battery anode specific capacity 132 mA g−1. Besides, gas recycled preparation heating value 12.10 MJ/Nm3. These results indicate that waste converted into sustainable adsorbent for treatment.

ABSTRACT The study investigates the effect of oxidant calcium oxide (CaO) on codigestion excess sludge (ES) and plant waste (PW) under mesophilic anaerobic conditions to enhance methane production. findings indicate that CaO significantly elevated yield in system, with an optimum addition 6% resulting a maximum production 461 mL/g volatile solids, which is approximately 1.3 times control group. Mechanistic exploration revealed facilitated disintegration organic matter, enhanced release soluble chemical oxygen demand, increased concentrations proteins polysaccharides within substrate. presence was conducive generation biological transformation fatty acids, notable accumulation acetic acid, smaller carboxylic acid VFAs. proportion acetate CaO-amended group 32.6–36.9%. Enzymatic analysis disclosed activity hydrolytic acidogenic enzymes associated ES PW process but suppressed coenzyme F420. Moreover, augmented nutrient load fermentation liquid. provides alternative scheme for efficient resource utilization PW.
