Abstract The pursuit of affordable renewable energy sources has increased interest in biogas. One the used to produce this fuel type is organic waste, which turns what would have been discarded into a valuable product. This study evaluated potential and economic feasibility generating electricity using biogas produced sewage treatment plant. plant currently operates with an average inflow 25 litres per second, producing estimated 9.69 cubic meters hour. generated 125.22 megawatt-hours year, meeting 47.4% plant's needs. cost ranges from 0.09 0.12 R$/kWh, depending on rate used. analysis suggests maximum payback period two years for initial investment, net present value (NPV) R$ 47,687.49 over project's 20-year lifespan. Additionally, extrapolating results account future expansion based total population region served by system reveals even more promising results.
