The pathway towards carbon neutrality in regions with a relatively light industrial structure and scarce renewable energy resources presents challenge when balancing efficiency improvements the expansion of energy. ABSTRACT The choice of spent new energy vehicle (NEV) battery recovery mode is crucial to improve performance. This paper examines the decision‐making rules for closed‐loop supply chain NEV batteries under intervention government policies. It also compares performance across various modes and effects different Results indicate that (1) in terms total revenue rate, producer mode, mixed involving automobile manufacturer professional recycler, more effective. Purpose To settle the recycling ability and effort information asymmetry between manufacturer recycler in electric vehicle battery supply chain, this paper constructs an screening mechanism based on principal-agent theory evaluates its effectiveness. Two types of recyclers, automobile manufacturers third-party companies, are discussed separately. Design/methodology/approach The essence is to design differentiated benefit distributed according recyclers inspire them make their best recycle. effectiveness examined discussed. Findings Recyclers incentivized truthfully report capabilities under optimal distribution mechanism, as obtains greater rewards than misreporting. A higher proportion capable reduces profitability false reporting while boosting manufacturers’ profits. Originality/value This proposes transparency efficiency addressing asymmetry.
