Abstract Background It has been well-known that animal gut microbiota is extensively involved in regulating host growth and health. Conversely, we still know less about the genetic determination on composition. In quantitative framework, contribution to inter-individual variation of composition can be estimated using best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) approaches hence termed microbial heritability. However, BLUP estimates heritability may biased as taxonomic abundances are always expressed relative proportions, which will lead interdependencies with each other. Results We used single-step genomic for estimating abundance rabbits consisted 1528 amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) 16S rRNA gene. To address between focal taxon all remaining members, directly fitted background community a random effect into mixed model. Our results indicated better fitting after including this effect, explained 30% phenotype variance average. Before 161 45 ASVs had greater than 0.05, respectively. Multiple relatively high heritable were enriched orders Bacteroidales (n = 11) Oscillospirales 9). Furthermore, there was no correlation their mean abundances. Conclusions revealed some microbes compositional abundance, provided promising method intrinsic data

This study investigated the diet-additive interactions of a Lactobacilli-based probiotic (Pro) and postbiotic (Post) on immune parameters cecal microbiota composition, with subsequent effects metabolome in broilers. A completely randomized block design was employed 2 diets [standard (SD), challenge (CD)] 3 additive conditions (Control, Pro, Post) involving 1,368 one-day-old male Ross 308 broilers equally distributed among 36 pens 42 d study. Diets were formulated to contain identical nutrient levels, CD higher than SD non-starch polysaccharide content by including rye barley. Total non-specific serum Ig A, M G concentrations determined weekly from d14 35. Following vaccination, titres specific antibodies binding Newcastle disease virus (NDV) infectious bursal (IBDV) measured. Microbiota composition analyzed 16S rRNA gene sequencing at 35, α- β-diversity indexes (Observed, Chao1, Bray, Jaccard) calculated. Cecal short-chain fatty acids semi-polar Control all groups d35. At d35, interaction observed composition. Within SD, Pro Post did not affect operational taxonomic units (OTU) abundance (adjusted-P > 0.05) diversity (P 0.05). CD, affected relative abundances 37 44 OTUs, respectively < 0.05), but affecting = 0.041 0.064 for Bray Jaccard, respectively). increased acetate (21%; P 0.007) butyrate (41%; 0.002) concentration metabolites while 240 No except IgM 0.004). Diet additives, status parameters. The only under dietary challenging as previously reported growth.
