Pastoral farming formed a key element of Norse subsistence strategies in South Greenland but with climatic changes the Little Ice Age they may have reached their limit. Most recently, studies into hydrological across period (10th–15th century AD) revealed severe drying trend that was coincident demise during early to mid-15th AD. This study examines lake sediments from central area Eastern Settlement Greenland. By means palynology this investigates whether were responsible for decreasing hay yields and consequent lack winter fodder. The results suggest droughts likely only minor drivers vegetation change. In fact, we demonstrate complex entanglement cooling trends, substrate impoverishment catchment sampled human adaptation processes. latter is manifested shift usage farm towards shieling/ dairy production. We conclude high amount labour required maintain while counterbalancing soil nutrients shortening growing season could be among many driving forces process reorganization Furthermore, allow discussion potential first palynological evidence water management
