Abstract The need for the production of synthetic polymers from renewable and sustainable resources also affects area emulsion polymerization. bio-based monomer (BM) was synthesized camelina oil (CO) itaconic acid through transesterification epoxidation CO, followed by itaconation, resulting in a blend methyl esters CO-originated fatty acids functionalized with reactive itaconate groups. Various amounts BM were copolymerized standard acrylic monomers (0−30 wt. % mixture) using polymerization technique to obtain film-forming latexes. Infrared Raman spectroscopies evidenced successful incorporation into structure latex polymers. ultra-high molar mass nanogel fraction detected asymmetric flow-field flow fractionation coupled multiangle light scattering (AF4-MALS) comprising copolymers; higher content, more extensive fraction. Crosslinking induced testified reactivity itaconated functions provided additional evidence copolymerization ability BM. resulted hardness glass transition temperature enhancement (about 11% 9°C, respectively, case 30 content contrast 0 copolymer). Coatings excellent transparency gloss obtained all latexes regardless used. Slightly increased water repellency 7 ° contact angle value) significantly improved whitening resistance coatings 80% decreased after 1-day long exposure) found copolymer, where phenomenon highly dependent on content.

In the present work, epoxidation of fatty acid methyl esters (biodiesel or FAMEs) with an iodine number 96.4 g/100 g and containing approximately 11% palmitic acid, 4% stearic 51% oleic 25% linoleic 5% linolenic was studied aqueous H2O2 solution different quaternary phosphonium salts (QPSs) combined phosphotungstic heteropolyacid (HPA) H3PW12O40 in a biphasic system. The effect molar ratio H2O2:C=C on FAMEs investigated. epoxy (EN) (IN) measured. Multiple regression analysis methods were used to determine model describing influence various independent variables. results obtained, it found that highest yields obtained for [P6][Phosf]. optimum conditions process systems time range 30 ± 4 min H2O2/double bond 1.8 0.2. formation epoxidised (E-FAMEs) confirmed by FT-IR, 1H NMR 13C analyses. FT-IR spectrum E-FAMEs, ring vibration signals identified at 826 cm-1. spectrum, appeared 3.25-3.00 ppm, corresponding biodiesel, 60-55 ppm spectrum.
