Abstract This study explores the effectiveness of utilizing walnut shells as a natural thermal energy storage material to enhance productivity conical solar stills (CSS). The investigation focuses on two different shell sizes (4 mm and 8 mm) distributed uniformly at basin CSS with surface area 0.1 m 2 . still features 3 mm‐thick plastic cover is filled 1 liter water. evaluates modified stills—one 4 (CSS‐WS4) another (CSS‐WS8)—against conventional (TCSS) serving control. experimental results reveal that cumulative distillate yield for TCSS, CSS‐WS4, CSS‐WS8 are 4.80, 6.90, 6.00 L/m /day, respectively. presence significantly improves water output, CSS‐WS4 achieving 43.75% increase 25.00% compared TCSS. Furthermore, economic analysis indicates reduction in recovery period, requiring 22 25 days, respectively, 31 days highlight performance enhancement primarily attributed superior heat retention properties shells, which improve evaporation rates within still. underscores potential incorporating cost‐effective eco‐friendly solution optimizing distillation efficiency.
