The manuscript tests the interconnected links between electricity consumption (EC), fossil fuel (FF) use, renewable energy (RE) adoption, foreign direct investment (FDI), population growth (PG), gross domestic product (GDP), and environmental pollution (EP) in Korea. Using time series data from 1990 to 2023, we employ vector autoregression (VAR) Granger causality (GCT) analyze dynamic interactions among these parameters. As a crucial instrument, green finance policy facilitates the transition toward and low-carbon regional economic structure, which is essential for realizing target of "double carbon" harmonious coexistence nature humans. Therefore, taking financial reform innovation pilot zone as quasi-natural experiment, we select 270 cities from 2010 to 2021 research samples empirically assess effects on reducing carbon emissions through double debiased machine learning (DDML) model. This study demonstrates that (1) plays significant role in promoting emission reduction, this conclusion remains valid after variety robustness tests; (2) mechanism action indicates contributes reduction by supporting technological optimization industrial structure; (3) analysis heterogeneity reveals has more pronounced effect eastern region non-resource-based than central western regions resource-dependent cities; (4) "Broadband China", information consumption, comprehensive experimental big data synergistic with policy.
