Extreme rainfalls caused by climate change are a growing worldwide threat to the urban environment. Nature-based solutions (NBS) employ soil and vegetation manage treat stormwater while ensuring extensive ecosystem services. In last decades, these solutions, such as Rain Gardens, Green Roofs, Vegetated Swales, Constructed Wetlands, have been implemented under different names. This study is systematic overview of reviews focusing on 10 years sustainable management literature. First, general bibliometric topic analysis highlights trends core themes addressed reviews. Then, article delves into bioretention, analyzing water quantity quality regulation function design choices media vegetation. Including an internal storage zone using amendments biochar treatment residuals relevant, features target pollution hydrologic functioning. Vegetation, too, has prominent role. Nevertheless, only most recent address species’ selection, highlighting significant research gap.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized Particulate Matter (PM) as the main threat to human health from air pollution. One of solutions is Green Infrastructure (GI), which uses different plants mitigate Among these are bryophytes (or more commonly used mosses), have easier maintenance, lighter weight, and durability compared vascular plants. However, currently, there limited knowledge its effectiveness in pollution mitigation. By addressing this gap current scientific knowledge, effective deployment GI could be introduced by municipalities for society’s benefits. This study aimed evaluate three species mosses (Dicranum scoparium, Plagiomnium affine, Hypnum cupressiforme) one thuja (Thuja plicata) a control possible vertical barrier local de-pollution. objective was assess moss species’ PM2.5 PM10 absorption laboratory setting. practical experiment conducted June–July 2024 Laboratory Physics Chemistry Environment Space Orleans (LPC2E-CNRS), France. For experiment, unique chamber engineered built with linear inside measure before after barrier. With obtained data sensors, efficiency vegetation calculated. total average all 18 tests tested 41% 47% mass concentrations. Efficiency shows maximum or optimal ability absorb environments, limitations indicated article. research an essential step towards further profound on barriers urban environments. It significantly contributes understanding effects presents results specific their capacity mitigation air. novelty lies particular application chosen species.

Climate change has aggravated the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, particularly in flood-related hazards. Cities nowadays face significant challenges stormwater management from frequent heavy rainfalls. Traditional urban drainage systems can no longer cope with large amounts surface runoff; cities are searching for new ways to deal stormwater. Green roofs other nature-based solutions have been widely used by combining water purification retention functions but not yet fully solved flood problems. This article aims (1) explore different aspects management, topic, (2) identify existing discuss potential barriers integrated implementation. By introducing concept four domains finding overlapping area investigate, we analyzed reduce rainwater runoff roof ground level, aiming at building district scales. paper proves that further research direction could constitute an system work together management.
