Underground wastewater treatment plants (U-WWTPs) have emerged as a novel paradigm for urban pollutants management, offering benefits such alleviating the Not-in-my-backyard (NIMBY) effect and utilizing land resources efficiently. China stands at forefront, witnessing swift advancements in U-WWTP technology deployment. However, absence of thorough understanding their geographical distribution operational characteristics could lead to misaligned planning construction, resulting inefficient resource allocation capacities treatment. This dataset provides an up-to-date overview spatial distribution, process selection, discharge standards all U-WWTPs (with total number 201) constructed since 1995. To enhance comparative analysis, has been supplemented with information on conventional aboveground (A-WWTPs), comprising 2464 records, which enriches more comprehensive evaluation different approaches. Utilizing this can provide essential data support strategic management systems serve valuable reference paradigmatic renovation existing plants.
