Few studies have explored the relationship between challenging behaviour and mental health symptoms in autistic individuals with intellectual disabilities, findings been mixed. Abstract It is increasingly recognised that many people with intellectual disabilities suffer from post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Eye‐movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) has been proposed as a potentially helpful intervention less reliant on verbal skills than other effective treatments for PTSD therefore could be more interventions disabilities. The Trauma‐AID project randomised clinical trial (RCT) evaluating the effectiveness of bespoke EMDR protocol adults disability PTSD, which incorporates prolonged phase Psycho‐Education Stabilisation (PES) prior to trauma confrontation EMDR. To this end, we conducted two online surveys therapists followed by interviews clients, carers senior therapists. were analysed descriptively. Content analysis was used client carer interviews, framework therapist interviews. All stakeholders reported positive experiences EMDR; however, some challenges identified. majority interviewed intervention, whether alone full PES‐EMDR package, had improved symptoms psychological well‐being, also decreases in challenging behaviour.
